    Hey all,

Searched for help with this but no hits. My son’s 2004 taco trd 4x4 with manual. 140,000. Went to drive it this morning and letting clutch out in any gear produced no power at rear wheels. Like it was still in neutral. Didn’t stall either. However put in 4H and 4L and truck drove in all gears 1-5 and reverse. Got all 4 tires off the ground and confirmed all 4 tires spin in 4 high and 4 low when let the clutch out. Just no power to rear wheels when in 2 wheel drive. First thought is transfer case but if so would not expect rear wheels to turn at all mo matter 2H, 4H or 4L. Has not been off road or abused since we bought it 3 months ago. Has been driving fine. Any ideas?

Interesting. . . .subbed to hear reason, but have no clue why it would do that.

Sure sounds like something is funky in the transfer case.....actually, this sounds like an actuator problem, the ADD might be acting up.

Sounds like the transfer case is in N when you think it’s in 2. Is it a jshift with the lever or a push button?

The shift is with a lever not a push button.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
This sounds to be the most logical reason.

Has the Transfer case shifter been removed since you had the truck?

You’ll want to be absolutely sure it’s in the right spot for 2hi, here’s my shifter for reference. If it’s not somehow going right instead of left when you shift from 4hi to 2hi, I guess the next step would be to remove the shifter from top of the case and make sure it’s installed right.

    Whole thing feels odd though.
