Has anyone ever had a cv axle pull apart wheeling? I.e. the tri star inner pulled out of the tulip that goes into the diff. I was on a nasty uphill climb. Off camber, turning passenger and bumped it while the front locker was engaged. I made the hill but it was thumping around so had to pull it. I could NOT get the tulip back in and the outer joint seemed bound up.
Freak accident? Or is did something else allow it to pop out?
Edit: air may have been obtained before it let loose. Lol

im going to bet too much droop = too high of CV angles + too little plunge into the tulip.

37's and lockers are not helping what so ever.

I can't really tell in the picture, but you might have too much lift. You would need longee drivetrain parts, if you lifted 3" or more.

Wheeling with malice... I like it. Lol

I pulled the outer but left the tulip in the diff. Drove off the trail in 3wd and loaded it on the trailer. The wheel bearing was already on the way out and it wasn't too far away so I wasn't worried.

I saw OP addressed this, but others might not know:
Do not drive without a CV axle in place.

The inner portion of the CV holds your fluid in the diff.
The outer portion of the CV holds the wheel bearing together.
No outer CV means your wheel will eventually fall off.

Also, a small rope makes it much easier to pull a CV:
    https://www.treatyoakoffroad.com/product/handy-rope

The slip end goes around the CV at the diff and pulls tight. The handle of a hammer goes through the blue end. Use momentum to pop the CV out of the diff much easier than a pry bar and cursing.
Having a front locker engaged makes is much easier to align the splines when installing the new CV.

I'm surprised it made it that far without the CV axle attached without the wheel bearing coming apart, impressive.

Here's what the inner tulip looks like...had the sh*t beat out of it in a short time frame.

Late to this but much easier way to swap axles. Replace the inner boots big clamp with a hose clamp. When you break the axle undo that clamp and slide the tulip bearing out. Do the same on the spare and slide it into the inner that's stuck in the diff. Wipe up the bit of grease and you are on your way. With this method I've unfortunately gotten good enough I can swap one with getting tools out in about 20 minutes.

Yep, happened to me in a similar situation.

Had to undo the UBJ to stick the half shaft back into the stub shaft, but limped it off the trail and towed it home.
