If removing the skidplate is a challenge, I'd guess that the rest of the oil change process might be a struggle as well.

Get a fumoto valve and DIY for your oil changes. Hope they make things right for you OP

    LS1 swap with nitros.
Based on taking it to an oil change place, I don’t believe you won’t accept anything else.
Have you stopped by the oil change place to see what the deal is?

WTH, That is quite a confession. You should ask them if they use same logic to not always replace the oil filter during an oil change.

My old Nissan had a skid that was attached by five flimsy bolts. The oil change place snapped three, so that it was just hanging on by the remaining two.

From experience, when your truck drops a skid in traffic... you freaking hear it. Even in a truck where the pan didn't have retention hooks so that it could freefall, it still makes a hell of a racket. And yes, the quick lube bought me a new skid and paid to tap all new threads into the sub-frame. The manager wasn't happy, but they weren't in a position to complain about it either.

This is the one I will be getting. Going to see if I will be reimbursed. I guess it doesn't matter as I need it.

I've had my faux TRD Skid plate for a little more than 3 years now, and is still holding strong. DSC_3604-01-01.jpg DSC_3602-01-01.jpg

Got it for $150ish back then. Idk how much they cost now.

About $400 now. That looks good. I'm concerned that the black one will get scratched up.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if it gets dinged here and there. It's a skidplate, it is kind of meant to be bashed up.

Mine still looks great with little damage, only the some chips in the powder coating on the front lip. Guessing rust and salt from the road is getting embedded and slowly wearing it down.

Aftermarket? The stock one is anything but a "heavy steel plate"

Where did you get the black one? It's it powdered or rattle-canned?

I thought about spraying my cheap lostar skid, but oddly the light color doesn't bother me so much.

But yes, functional, easier to change the oil, and they make those Sports look good. :cookiemonster:

The black one is on eBay. I'm not sure if the one that was on it was aftermarket.

the oil change place owes you a skid plate or monetary compensation. i would go back there; it's probably still in there shop somewhere. i doubt they would throw away a skid plate.

    New to third gen here.
My stock splash shields had spacers is that normal?
Have not done an oil change yet but undercoated and removed them broke a bolt on the rear one.
Really don’t want to remove them for oil change during the winters anyway.
Are the spacers shown with the lostar skid necessary?
I put the front one back on without the spacers.
Once it warms up I will drill out the broken bolt.
It’s used and I get 2 free oil changes and tire rotations.
Really hesitant to use one but it’s cold and I’m old.
    Thanks
    Jeff

On the lostar (and pro skid) they are necessary. That skid sits differently than the splash plate. It covers more acreage, so the middle bolts don't exactly sit flush without the spacers.

As far as spacers on the stock plate... I don't remember there being spacers on that one. From very fuzzy and inaccurate memory, I don't think they had spacers, and can't imagine why someone would put spacers there. :notsure:

    Thanks bud!
I was thinking the 1” spacers maybe gave room to not remove but they were a pia to have deal with.
I don’t off road really thinking the lostar will work fine for me.
    Appreciate the reply!

I rattle canned mine knockoff black, because of course I did. It's holding up pretty well through some lite offroading so far. But definitely will have to repaint it occasionally not that big of deal. I hated that dull silvery color it originally was though.
