New guy here, I need to replace my front cv axles. When I look on line there are so many choices.

Just starting though it. New shocks and struts, running 29 inch tires. Dog bench in the rear seat
I guess I flubbed my first post. What do you guys buy and from whom. Online is easier to do than going to town. We don't drive a ton of miles each year, usually 15k to 17k each year. Offroading is only in the summer and fall. We get into some very interesting locations at times. I see HD axles and heavier boots or is that hype.

There’s a few guys running Napa HD axles and they have wheeled them pretty hard.
General consensus is that OEM is the best.

If you can get them - if not I used new CV axles from NAPA NCV944082 about $125 each shipped to me free.
On about a year now and last summer when I blew the rear diff way up a hard trail they pulled us out over 12 miles and no issues.

OEM or the ones from Napa. Wouldn’t trust anything else.

Toyota sells factory remanufactured CV axles that are just as good as new ones, but a fraction of the cost. I had to learn the hard way to forget about ANYTHING but factory axles.

I've been trying to buy the oem remans but can't find them anywhere. Good luck.
This for 3rd gen but should be the same for 2nd gen but you should confirm.

Yes, I had to wait a while to get mine too. I have a pair on the shelf now so the next time I have them ready.

my original axles were fine... just the boots torn, so I got a toyota reboot kit that comes with everything for like 40 dollars if i remember right. Pulled the old off rebooted and put back on.

I've tried these. I paid extra for their silicone boots, designed to outlast the OEM boots on lifted trucks. One trip to Utah and the boots were split. Maybe their straight OEM boot rebuilds are OK. I'm done experimenting and adding expensive failures to the growing pile. The original Toyota OEM axles went 165,000 miles on my 3" lifted truck. Nothing else has lived past 10,000. I'm back to Toyota new or remanufactured now. I'll check back in when they fail, but don't wait up for me!

Thank you for all the advice, I went with new NAPA axles. We will see how they do. I ordered them Thursday evening and they were at our store today.

Anyone know the difference in NAPA part #NCV 944082 compared to part # NCV 944052? In the store they said 052 was for first edition and 082 was for second edition. Both part numbers were listed for a 2012 model.
