Ever looked at your wiring harness under your truck? Parts of it are wrapped in electrical tape. Just tape a spare onto part of the harness that's already wrapped and it all blends in after a couple of times driving and getting dirty. If you're really worried about the tape coming loose (you do use quality electrical tape right, not some cheap crap from Harbor Freight?) then you can use a small ziptie, clip the ziptie tail close then wrap it.

the hitch area is such an abusive environment. For me, that would include overspray from dust and salt. I certainly wouldn't want to keep the hitch safe permanently installed. What about the key safes they use on houses for sale that wrap around the door knob, there must be a bolted tie down it could be attached too?

If I have to hide/leave my keys with my truck I usually leave them in the fuel door which is pretty common but hasn't let me down yet.
