My old boss made an excellent porch swing and gave me templates for the design. Thought about making one. I don't really need a swing, but just want to build one. Maybe throw it on the local board and sell it for some beer money.

I'd love to make a porch swing for my mom sometime! Maybe we can do swings at the same time. :)

My template is in the garage closet in front of the snow blower so I'll have to dig it out tomorrow and text you what they look like. If you want, we can build the first one off that as an experiment! The fact it's for your mom is even cooler!

I bought a Stanley #4 and a #5 off of marketplace off an old guy that was just 'thinning the herd' as he called it. They were in great shape, and for the $100 combined, I couldn't pass it up. But these were my first experiences with hand planes.... and well I never really looked forward to using them. Granted my sharpening skills were nonexistant (and now they're getting close to mediocre) so that doesn't help anything.
But I was at Lee Valley with a gift card after fathers day last year and I saw the low angle jack, all shiny and pretty, and I had to have it.

I never thought I'd spend that money on a hand tool, but I'm so glad that I did, because this was the first one that I got to use that was A) Sharp out of the box, B) setup pretty dang good out of the box. It made planing an enjoyable experience, and frankly showed me how poor shape the Stanleys were. Restoring old stuff is great, and the bones on those planes are second to none, but if you don't know what good is, it's hard to turn an old plane into a good one.

Do you know how hard it is to get pearly shine in a photo? Very hard. Here's my best efforts.

I set up a working space in the greenhouse today, so now I can do some projects out there. Its kinda exciting. :D The wood shop is unavailable this week, so I'm gonna start stuff here and do the finishes up there next week.

Its 60 here for another day. The greenhouse is pretty warm during the day, and I have space to bring things inside overnight to keep it warm.

I would put it inside where it has a constant humidity level. Hate to see that nice wood twist and bow :angrygirl:
