The truck just ended it’s warranty., I’m pretty sure Toyota will honor the repair.

Usually if it out of warranty by a month, they can do something. More than that its a crap shoot. I wouldn't hold my breath if so.

Do your best with Toyota, if they end up refusing all help get a used motor from www.car-part.com and have it put in. There's hundreds of them listed starting at $2500-3000.

    Good Luck!

Synthetic oil change is due every 5k mi.
This is not some light use passenger car with a large filter and oil capacity that does 10k, set up by car companies for your vehicle to break once it's out of warranty to make you buy the newer turd.
5k is the minimum, possibly even more if subjected to hard use. Depends on the quality of the oil. Some people use high quality proven oil, some people use cheap shit.

Other manufacturers may goodwill (partial or complete coverage of repair) slightly out of warranty, provided vehicle has proof of other things being done, like a minimum of good services.
Toyota is known for not doing that.

It is also suspicious that Toyota has chosen not to put the 3.5L into the 5th Gen 4Runner.

I also don't think that Toyota, who has intentionally fucked up the design of all of these trucks since 2005, is going to care. Their plan has been the opposite.
When other brands revise bad parts to fix them, Toyota does not. When other brands design parts to be proven and common sense, Toyota alters the design to be garbage.
They also pay shit for warranty times. Perhaps they don't have the money.

The pictures do not show excessive wear. It takes a lot.
IF, there is excessive wear, that can certainly cause low oil pressure, because engineers design oil to flow through a passageway with a certain level of pressure. If that passageway is suddenly worn out to be way bigger (such as wear, or mechanical failure), the pressure drops and fails to reach further up components at the required high pressure, failing to lubricate them as well.
Usually monitored by multiple pressure sensors.
Or, wear/failure can clog the oil delivery system, whether that be a pickup tube screen mesh or otherwise.

All is easy to inspect yourself on a truck, including filter, draining oil, and dropping lower oil pan to inspect inside and look upwards at pickup tube with a flashlight.

The tech may just want to quote you an engine. It's more lucrative. Or perhaps they have enough experience with these trucks to know it may need one.
Or maybe they don't have experience with high mile trucks, because people don't take high mile trucks to dealers.
Some techs know their TSB's and check them. Some just glance at the vehicle and quote to the moon, which is certainly faster, especially if you live in a flat rate state (every state that is not California); not to mention on a brand that, again, does not pay well for warranty to begin with, if you've not paid hour diagnostic minimum.

From what I gather, you have not spoken to the actual tech working on the vehicle, or even know his name or who is working on it. That also is probably not a good thing. I know some dealers also require videos to be sent to customers, of 4-5minutes, plenty of time to show their findings, provide explanation, etc. Very easy to do. Doesn't sound like that happened either.

Nothing yet. Spoke to Toyota corporate on Tuesday to get an update and the case manager said they left a message and haven't heard back from the dealer. Then spoke to the person at the dealer that was suppose to have gotten that message and he said no one reached out. The case manager said that she would contact me by Wednesday with an update and I didn't get a call.

Yeah so overall not a good feeling so far lol.

    Guess I'll call again today.

    ...

Called again today and the Dealership guy is out today returning tomorrow and the Toyota Corp case manager was "Unavailable" but would return my call in 24 hours.

So most likely no new news until next week if i had to guess.

Oil is cheap in comparison to engines. My Taco has its oil changed every 6 months (3-4k miles). I just got rid of a 2005 Corolla with 227,000 miles and it didn’t use any oil.

Nothing new. Still waiting. The dealer said corporate requested some information that they sent Monday so at least the ball is rolling.

Finally got a hold of Toyota corporate after the case officer didn't call me back for close to 2 weeks after 3 call back request... Basically said there is no goodwill that can be offered.

I asked what she reviewed and she basically read back the email that the dealer told me they sent her. I said do I have any options that Toyota would assist with. She said there is no good will that can be provided.

I asked are there any reasons why a Tacoma with all maintenance completed by the dealer would fail after 95k miles... She said while its unusual it does happen...

I requested for a supervisor or manager to review my case. Not hopefully but said they would contact me by Wednesday.

and this was 4 days out of warranty?? If so, that sucks! I get there has to be a cutoff somewhere,,, sometime, at some point, but 4 days not to provide some kind of assistance is silly.

You might still have a shot . Keep pressing
If not get a salvage motor and have a private shop drop it in . I’ve worked on cars my whole life and unfortunately sometimes shitty stuff like this happens . All it takes is a small flaw somewhere and it will crop up later. Even with so called bullet proof stuff. Other times you have an engine with known flaws and nothing happens . Luck of the draw . Sorry this had to happen to you.

Bad times right now is not helping . Lots of businesses are feeling the crunch as with most people. They are watching profits shrink .

Sit down with the service manager and the GM. Ask them if they’re willing to the job at internal shop rates on the labor and parts. You never know and it never hurts to ask. Or even at employee cost which at most dealers is cost + 10-20 percent.

This is the reason I never buy extended warranties, and bank the money instead. Something is likely to come up, better have the money in your pocket.

    And the PCV valve too?
While changing the oil @5k with fresh clean oil helps to remove harmful contaminants and wear debris that can attack seals and gaskets, a worn PCV valve can raise those crankcase pressures and can cause oil leaks & seeps.
Notice that by the time the valve is replaced in this video, it was too late for the gaskets and by the time the CEL came on, the damage was done.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaHriGHfxss

OP, at first I thought you might need a bigger truck and suggested a trade in, as there might be other expensive repairs. But if I were in your shoes. I’d look for a shop or tech with TOYOTA experience that can do an engine swap.

Many good suggestions here on how to go about finding a good engine. Just find a shop and get a price then make a decision.

Good luck what ever you do
