I spent a while yesterday researching a new tesa Hite gage for work.
They are just leaving it up to me to pick one.
Funny how the people who don’t use it and don’t know how to use one have input

Those fire service fellows keep a nice truck.

International Cargo Star chassis, built between 1970-86.

The Cargo Star was a replacement for the not so commonly seen Load Star cab over as seen below with the far more common Load Star conventional. These were the first models in the International line in the medium duty field.

When I was in the F.D. in my early years we had two of them, one was gas and one was diesel. I'm not sure which one was slower

While the IH engines weren't famous for speed or fuel economy, they were legendary for longevity.
The gas engines weight 25-30% more (about 250 pounds) than a Chev 350.
Even the thermostat housing on an IH engine is cast iron.

Growing up the town had American LaFrance fire trucks similar to the one below. They were incredibly loud, you could hear them take off from the station all over town.

Back then the fire fighters had a Plectron radio at home for the call out but portable radios were very expensive and therefore rare. The more experienced fellows could estimate how long the truck would take to arrive just by the engine sound.

We had a siren with a generator at the old station growing up, could hear it for miles. They did away with it 20+ years ago.

Cole and I were hunting last week in a rural town 15 minutes from home, we heard the exact same siren. Cole ask me what it was so I told him. Few minutes later we heard the firetruck sirens. Times have changed where we live.

You always heard the station siren first, then shortly after the truck would roar away down the main street.

They still use station sirens in town around here.
