    Good lord....
I think that guy might've gotten a little bit of gun on his lube.

Tempted to ask him if he accidentally gets too much gun on his lube what the best way to wipe it off is.

Could use some advice diagnosing a malfunction.
I bought a complete upper from Aero that is giving me FTFs. It’s a 14.5” mid length system in 556. Im using it on my lower from a Springfield Saint.

On an empty magazine the bolt isn’t locking back, otherwise I’ll often get the multifunction that is pictured below. It’s displaying as if it’s under gassed. I tried different magazines and also a carbine weight buffer (original is H1) and still the same results. Forgot to try a different BCG but otherwise I’m out of components to try minus maybe a lighter buffer spring? The gas block is a fixed block and unfortunately I had to pin and weld an A2 flash hider on so I couldn’t even install one. Only other thing to check would be to see if the gas block is misaligned but I purchased the upper complete I didn’t build it myself.
Anything else I should be checking?

It sucks to have this happen.

Did you call them? I have had to a few times both USPS and UPS. They both found my stufff I was surprised. They use GEO trackers so if you have tracking they can see exactly where it was dropped off. For some reason my stuff was getting dropped of a block ahead of me, but at the exact same house number. How this keeps happening is kinda weird. The streets both have entirely different names.

Does the bolt hold back on an empty mag what you manually pull it back or only when you empty the magazine?

It's been awhile since I have built an AR and had to troubleshoot it so please bare with me. Sometimes parts just don't mesh well when you mix brands. Aero has always been my go to for parts. What spec is your bolt and barrel?

Ohhh that sucks and I wish you better success in dealing with that garbage company than I had.

Since it is a pin weld you could still try to see if gas block is out of alignment. Place a mark on the barrel and another one on the block to mark current position then try moving it a little right of center then a little left of center if right didn't work to see if that improved gassing and feeding. I would also check headspace

You can also try new bcg. As most AR's now are coming out of factory as overgassed I would still consider trying a heavier buffer just to test it h2/h3 aren't crazy expensive if you don't already have one.

Unfortunately for me my ultimate remedy was having to buy a new barrel from a reputable company as even sending back proof from a gunsmith I paid to inspect the aero upper that it failed headspace wasn't enough for them to resolve my warranty request and they continued to ignore my ticket submission/emails.

Bolt will lock back if I pull back on the charging handle. If I shoot a single round out of the magazine it doesn’t lock back.

The BCG should be milspec, it’s out of a complete Springfield rifle I bought a few years ago. The barrel is from the complete Aero upperi bought.

After I try another BCG, fiddling with the gas block is pretty much the only other thing to try. Just sucks to have to deal with that on a complete upper. If I wanted to fiddle I could have built it myself.

I will definitely try a heavier H2 buffer, but wouldn’t it be counterintuitive to go heavier when it seems like it needs to be lighter?

I hate to hear that about Aero. I’ve bought a few lowers from them and this is my second complete upper. But I’ve been trying all week to get ahold of someone on the phone just to pick brains about this situation and I can’t get anyone on the phone. That leaves me with a bad taste for sure.

Try a weaker spring. Seems like it's undergassed and doesn't have enough to move the carrier back far enough to lock open or cycle a round like it should. If you have another lower with a standard carbine spring and buffer, try that and wee what happens.

Is spring stiffness rated in a uniform way like buffer weights are (carbine, H1 ect.)? I’ve got a braced lower with a carbine buffer in it, which is the other weight I tried but I didn’t swap springs too.

I will certainly try it, although I’d rather fiddle with the upper to work with the lower. I’ve got more uppers than lowers, and I’d rather have my uppers modified to work on the lower rather than the other way around, if that makes sense.

Hard to say without seeing it bolt could actually be moving too fast too. Given the fact most ar uppers are over not undergassed worth taking a shot especially if you've got the parts

I would also inspect the chamber it may be out of spec causing feed issues. If you have headspace guages might as well check that too.

I sincerely hope they handle your QC issues better than mine if you aren't able to self resolve I'd start planning on needing to buy a new barrel(at least it's cheaper than an AR10 barrel) :bananadead::spending:

Edit while I assumed running unsurpressed since you said it was a pinned A2 but if suppressed could be overgassed and dwell time issues. Other thing I didn't ask what kind of ammo you're running?

Thanks, me too. I will definitely be trying an H2 buffer since it’s cheap and easy enough to change as well as another BCG. I submitted a help ticket on their website tonight since I can’t seem to get ahold of anyone on the phone.

So apparently even your high end companies have suck ass customer service. My wife ordered me a Geiselle charging handle in ODG for a birthday gift. They sent a black one. No biggie it was a mistake anybody can make one and right before Christmas. I was on the phone for an hour on hold yesterday guy says oh sorry go on computer, message us, give order number, and provide picture and we will send out a correct one. Cool so I did. Message back is I’ll have to pay for shipping and a restocking fee. Yeah NOPE! I’ll be back on phone today and unless somebody made a mistake with the reply they just lost out on a Super Duty upper sale an any further business.
On the flip side I have contacted companies like Radical, Aero, and Ballistic advantage before and had wonderful service although I’m sure that’s not the case for everyone as I know @OnePuttBlunder had a poor experience with Aero

You need to make sure your wife's receipt shows a ODG one was ordered and not black by mistake. If she indeed ordered the correct one, then that is unacceptable and if they wanted me to pay anything out of pocket to fix the issue then I'd be doing a charge back on my card.

it’s all worked out. The guy I got ahold of, after another hour long hold which I understand but still a pita, went through everything and was very apologetic for any misunderstanding. He has corrected the issue supposedly, we will see what I get, and started the process for a veteran discount for future purchases.
This just goes to show. We are all human and make mistakes. I never got angry with them and the issue was resolved. Customer service can be good or bad no matter what tier company you deal with and not everyone has the same experiences
