Any woodworkers?

Luckily the humidity is generally low though the winter here. We aren't on central air here, so the humidity isn't steady inside either, though its dry whenever the stove is on. Point well taken though. I do my best to take care of it.

 

Snatched up an old craftsman 12” planer the other day. Heavy as all get out and planes amazing.

salvaged an oak branch that was being thrown out. cut free hand with stihl ms170 being that I didn’t feel like throwing the granberg onto the 661 for 20 mins of cutting. Was able to get 4 nice little slabs.

love salvaging throw outs. Didn’t even use a whole tank of gas.

 

Anyone have an opinion on CMT vs Freud blades?

I’m use to Diablo or Freud industrial stuff (depending on the tool), but it’s time to get a new combination blade for the table saw and the lumber yard I frequent sells CMT. I feel a bit cautious to give CMT a try since I’ve had good luck with Freud stuff for years.

 

I'm a Freud guy, never found anything better for the price.

 

Is this worth it for $125? I realize its old but it would be my first table saw for my wood working endeavors.

 

The fence alone is worth that. Only thing you have to watch on those old craftsman is if the blade stops spinning right away after you shut it off

 

My dad has my grandfather’s old Craftsman table saw from the mid-70s and it’s still rock solid.

 

Have one very similar. It’s an old craftsman and love it. I’d pull the trigger

I had a saw like that for 40 years! It served me well. Depending on the motor size it has you might want to run Freud thin kerf blades on it. At some point I totally reworked mine, had the top micro ground, added alloy crank wheels, and a much improved fence and out feed tables. I sold mine for $600 when I got my new saw.

 

Found a plane on Ebay for $44, looks refurbed but will work for what i need. I just honed blade up a little. It was all taken apart. Seems to work good.

Here's a couple pics of my old saw. Not only did I up grade the fence and handwheels but I also upgraded it to dust collection and a panic switch on off button. I also made the outfeed and side tables for it.

I hope you get the saw for what he was asking, it would be a very good deal.
