AMSoil is sold in at least 3 tiers of quality and price.
I do not buy their top tier $16/qt oil. So, there goes that.
I'm not knocking Mobil1, but I've never seen 0w20 available for your claimed price. Perhaps you have access to something I do not.
AMSoil is coming in under $10/ quart, which is more inline with all other 0w20 quality synthetic I've ever seen in retail.
And my shipping is free. So, there's that too.

Walmart has Mobil 1 12qt "bags" for $60 ($5/qt) and Costco has a 6 pack of it for $34'ish. ;)

For the real deal on engine wear, and what's happening with your oil viscosity, just contact Blackstone Laboratory.
Shipping and analysis will run you a $20 bill, then report back.

Prices must have gone up, $35 for standard tests when I checked just now. TAN and TBN are $10 each if added. Other additional tests are even higher added costs.

Very well could be. I'm quoting the amount the last time I had an analysis done. And that goes back to my Subaru STI, so it's been a minute.

I’m confused…. Is it a fact the Mobil 1 makes Toyota oil? Wouldn’t that make Toyota brand or Mobil 1 the best oil for Toyota, as Mobil 1 is already one of the best oils.

I believe that both Idemitsu and Mobil have both made oil for Toyota. The Toyota spec is high VI and high moly. I don’t think you’ll see that same formula in any Mobil 1 oil. There is an Idemitsu clone called Eco moly or something like that. None of this is to say the Toyota oil is “best”.

0w20 mobil 1 is scarce at wally world here, and when you can find it, its over $30 for a 5 qt jug...$9 for a single qt if you buy it that way. I can get as much as mobil 1 5w30 there as i want for much less, especially when theres a rebate on it. As far amsoil, i have to find a dealer that sells it around here, and when i do no oil is worth that much.

i had an oil change done at the dealer in october. they told me they use bulk mobile 1.

it seemed to darken fairly quickly, in less than 1000 miles. i thought it was odd. just an observation, so if you are a fan there is no need to be offended or overreact.

i recently changed the oil myself and used toyota 0-20W. my truck seems to be quieter and run better, a bit peppier. could just be perception but, based on that experience i won't use mobile 1 again if i can avoid it.

Seems every time I need oil Amazon is out of stock, but usually Walmart has some in stock. I just hate Walmart and despise going there. I started buying the big jugs on Amazon when I see it available, now I have a ton of it. Same with diff fluid and transfer case fluid - I have enough fluid for the next 3 years of changes LOL.

I once bought some Amsoil and the guy marked the back of my shirt with a piece of chalk.

Mobil 1 is well known for darkening quickly; that said, dark oil in no way indicates suitability to protect an engine. The fact is, Mobil simply uses an additive package which quickly darkens with heat.

It is totally beyond me that there are 10's thousands of 300K+ Tacoma's on the road running any kind of oil that's on sale! Must be a reason behind that.

Someone out there should be replacing the 120,000 mile rear diff fluid fluid before worrying about what oil to change every 3k miles.
    This is odd....
I'm old enough to remember the commercial Mobil1 used to run where they put oil in frying pans and would heat them up.
Mobil1s claim was it didn't burn like the competitors did.
Lol...recipe probably changed again, as all things do.
