    Hi folks,

Today my radio went out on my 2011 Tacoma. I also had the volume issue with the dial but used the steering wheel controls as a work around. What seems to be the best replacement for this radio besides taking it to the dealership? I have used Crutchfield in the past for other vehicles. I would like to replace it and still use the steering wheel controls.

    Cheers,
    Christoph

Crutchfield still IS the best....they have the modules and all to make your steering wheel controls work with an aftermarket unit. I went with a bluetooth Sirius Pioneer unit and LOVE it...also upgraded the speakers while I was at it.

Pioneer or Alpine are the best after market in my opinion they both have Android and CarPlay, touch screen, and my backup camera is hooked up to the radio also. Just get the steering wheel control adapter and your fine

as Msgt said up grade speakers if you can if any do the front and do the backs later

The crappy “gameboy” dot matrix head unit in my 2012 was problematic since day 1, locking up when you tried to switch tracks or radio stations. Sometimes the dot matrix wouldn't illuminate. I swapped that POS with a pioneer BS2800 within few months of ownership. Couldn't be bothered with warranty on a shit stereo. The Pioneer multimedia deck is awesome. Factory speakers came alive, had colours and visuals, custom background, bluetooth handsfree, USB. All this with an entry level deck from pioneer. Do yourself a favour and ditch the gameboy style headunit. (If thats what you got)upload_2023-1-4_17-36-35.jpgand get a pioneer or alpine multimedia with navi if you gots the $.

I just started looking for CarPlay compatible head units. I feel like that alone will transform the driving experience on road trips.

My company truck is a ‘21 Silverado 2500, heated seats, heated steering wheel, CarPlay. I get in the Tacoma and I feel like I’m back in the early 90s. Time to change that.

Did you have the rear headliner speakers? My model has six speakers and wanted to know how challenging it was to change the rear speakers. I have picked out my new stereo receiver and speakers for the doors. Cheers

i went with an Alpine ILX-259 a few years ago and my only regret is not going with the the higher end model to really take advantage of the idata link which can give vehicle info. the ILX-511 is really peaking my interest...

another regret i have, is doing sound deadening in the doors when i upgraded the speakers.
