So this was my first deer rifle. Started shooting it when I was 12 and killed my first deer with it at 16. I “retired” it about 7 years ago when I started shooting 308 and used the scope off of it. Got a new scope with Christmas money and plan on adding it to the rotation this upcoming season. Remington 742 in 3006.

Playing in the kitchen while consuming adult beverages. ended up pickling a pak of my deer snack sticks. prick the casing so brine gets in there. heck, they may be goodAEC8BE86-81B8-42F9-A24C-F8D72A867AD0.jpg

May grandfather have this one to my dad who in turn gave it to me. They are good guns surprisingly except for the potentially limited life of the locking lugs in the receiver.

When I hunted with rifles in the big woods up North, I used Mauser carbines with Mannlicher stocks and Lyman peeps.
IMO, perfect stalking guns for all day walks.
Sadly, they are collecting dust in the safe as I have only been hunting close to home in shotgun only areas.

I love Mausers in those funny Metric calibers ,esp Carbines in 6.5 Swede, 7x57 and 8x57.

First day of muzzleloader in Ohio (4 days total). Wet snow most of the morning that didn't really stick to help visibility (yesterday there was about an inch everywhere in the morning that naturally melted before today. Quit after a 4 hour sit and no deer - just Jonas next door and 3 younger looking red foxes - more blonde than red. First 2 came trotting through together and a minute or 2 later the third followed up. Never saw 3 at once, in fact never even saw 2 together. Years ago while bunny hunting saw a coal-black one actually trailing another guys beagle!!!
