My wife was driving to pick me up from work and she said she went to shift from fourth to fifth and the pedal stuck she pulled it back and nothing no gears it seems to go into gear but won't move the clutch looks like it's working I've since went through disassembled and reassembled the master and slave cylinders and re bled the lines a billion times.

It's frustrating it's a relatively new truck 2020 right around 60k miles I bought it brand new in 2020 it seems like the transmission is stuck in neutral?
Does anyone know if there is some kind of neutral switch on the transmission that would flip into like a limp mode?or something I'm missing?

If the hydraulics are good, it sounds like the pressure plate failed.

Do you have any mods, rough off-roading, crashes, etc.. I have ~77k on my '17 MT and never had any issues like this. Have you reached out tot the dealer?

Welcome to the forum :hattip:, sorry this has to be your first post.

There is no switch on the transmission that I am aware of.

So the pedal stuck down and she pulled it back up - does it (the pedal) feel like it is connected to/doing anything?

If you put the truck in first gear with the engine off can you push it? That would indicate the pressure plate had failed or there is an internal transmission/transfer case problem.

Keep us posted of any progress and good luck.

It's a regular old manual transmission, there's no switch.

You say the transmission feels like it goes into gear and then you state it feels like it's stuck in neutral. Sounds like you have either a clutch failure or a shifter failure. Being that the clutch pedal was stuck down (I assume that's what you're saying) you likely have a broken clutch and will need to replace. I'm guessing you've already inspected the clutch fork. No noises?

I'd pop the shifter out of the top of the transmission to verify it's fine, but this would not cause the issues with the clutch pedal so I wouldn't expect it to be the issue.

Is there not an inspection plate on the transmission you can pull and visually see the pressure plate?

I’d pull it off and see what’s happening.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Isn’t it still under warranty if new in 2020?

Apparently toyota considers anything clutch related to be normal wear

Wow, that is not good. I am assuming throwout bearing is fine? Did it have any stiff or squeaky or grinding clutch pedal travel before this happened? That is most often throwout bearing. A lot of the light trucks have cheap plastic sleeve throwout bearings that shred, but normally the clutch will still function normally for gear changes. Just a pain in the ass when the bearing wears.

I bought a third party extended warranty, and I see it covered all clutch parts. Warranty is expired now, but I got to use it to fix my seat heaters, complete new front brakes, and my drivers side CV axle, wheel hub, and inner bearing.

So it easily paid for itself.

    Good luck with your fix.

They’re not the only MFG, all that I know of, consider the clutch assembly as a whole, a wear item.
Sure the lift and giant 35s didn’t help on the way in to the service area.

I would be looking at the master cylinder and clutch release bearing + fork once I verified the fluid levels and confirmed the fluid has been replaced recently. All fluid has a useful life. These are the questions I'd try to answer (in order)...
    1. Is everything between my foot and the clutch set up properly to engage / disengage the clutch (fluid is fresh and filled to the appropriate level, all mechanical linkages assembled and behaving as designed? You don't want to drop the transmission only to find your clutch pedal broke or a seal on the master cylinder is blown out)
    2. Is the clutch release fork moving when the driver depresses the clutch?
    3. If one and two above are both "yes" then you have major issues that will require $$$ to inspect / diagnose.
I'm hoping it is a simple seal on the master cylinder blowing out or your fluid being old/needing replaced. I don't think old fluid would just quit like that though - it would go bad over time - but it could be a confounding variable.

Is there any sign of ATF (red fluid) leaking from your master cylinder?

Unfortunately someone else was driving your truck, is your wife a good manual trans driver? Could be the main shaft on the trans sheared, very bad. Clutch failure is very odd with such a new truck. 35's could have caused premature clutch failure. First thing I would check is the shifter and linkage.

Yes she has gotten pretty good at it. And she says it didn't make any noise just revved up like it was in neutral or clutch engaged.

Been trying to post a video of what the fork and release bearing do when you push the clutch in my service Is lacking. But yes I did go through remove both master and slave cylinders inspect clean out refill and reinstall. At the same time drained the clutch hydraulic system and refilled. Followed another re bleeding and another and another. Everything seems to be operating correctly from the clutch hydraulic system from pedal to release bearing. So I do believe the next and only thing left to do is drop the tranny and fully disassemble the clutch.
Anyone have any recommendations on a good heavy duty clutch kit?

What Trim Level is your truck? Sounds like you made some sort of difference if the pedal is functioning now compared when it was stuck to the floor.

I’d go with an OEM clutch. I know you had a bad experience with this one, but that is exceedingly rare. The HD clutches are going to have a much stiffer pedal and don’t really offer anything if your engine is stock.
