    Hey all,

    2018 TRD/OF DCLB. Automatic.

When decelerating gently from about 40mph to a stop (and other cases) I hear a deep noise. Like a "clunk". It happens right before I get to a stop. Now, I know that earlier 3rd Gen Tacoma's have suffered from transmission problems so do we think that's what this is? I am not getting vibrations. To me if feels like it's the truck catching 1st gear on its way down.

I don't have surges, jolts or lags in my transmission in any other use case. Shifting between P, R, N and D aren't issues either.

    Thoughts? Feelings? Known solutions?

No one likes a thread without a picture sooooooo

I think you hit it right. As you slow the truck does a downshift which can feel like clink. Lots of trucks do this not just tacomas.

My 2018 AT TRDOR does the same. I don't think it is a problem, but don't know for sure.

I like the look of your trailer. What brand/model is it?

My '16 SR5 4x does the same thing. Most noticeable the first couple of stops in the morning when still cold.

My 2017 TRD OR does the same before it gets up to temp. Just a thing some of these trucks do. And it has been present on stock, OVTune and KDMax, though definitely minimized on the KD.

My 2018 SR5 did the same thing. While installing Sumo springs to the rear axle I found 2 of my axle u bolt nuts were so loose I removed them by hand. Installed the springs and tightened all nuts to 83 ft lbs. Have driven 500 miles and the shift clunck is gone.

I'd second checking rear ubolts. The clunk can come from or be exacerbated by axle wrap or loose ubolts.
