I would. These things are painted by robots it should be exactly the same everywhere. If not I'd tell them get me a different one, I'll wait.

Add me to the list. 2017 Tacoma, VIN starts with 3. Noticed paint peeling around rear driver side window. Brought to dealer who said I needed to see a Toyota Body Shop. Emailed pics and VIN to body shop who told me to contact Toyota. Called Toyota and they said not a big enough of a problem among Tacomas to warrant support. Frustrating.

Have been reading these hoping it wouldnt happen to me but I notice peeling starting today on my 2018. Both front quarter panels where the panel meets the windshield. Will file a complaint and add my drop to the bucket.

Summary of my Super White problems:
    • 3 doors and hood repainted due to extreme oxidation where it appeared the factory tried to buff the single stage paint. Fully covered under the 36K warranty about 1.5 years into ownership.
    • Both front fenders painted recently as it started to peel near the A pillar area and Toyota charged me a $500 "deductible" since it was out of warranty. Argued all the way to corporate and they wouldn't budge on my out of pocket cost. Body shop sucked ass installing the flares so the tape is uneven and extends beyond the plastic and looks like garbage. Will have to reinstall the flares myself. The body shop told me "It's just a truck." as their excuse for their horrible work.
    • The bed of the truck is now starting to show signs of paint failure. I would like to get it fixed but the body shop will likely screw up the fender flare install again even if I can get Toyota to cover the cost.
Overall my experience with my Tacoma has been great except for the paint failures. I own this truck and am disappointed that my asset is falling apart due to such poor quality paint. My biggest mistake is buying a Super White Tacoma. If I had picked any other color I would not be in this position.

Please add me to the list, my 2017 super white started flaking this year and the other day I walk out to my truck to find this crap on the lower seal of my rear passenger window. truck only has 28k miles on it and im the only owner. very frustrating since i paid it off this year. My VIN starts with a 3 like others have stated so mine might have been painted in Baja Mexico. hoping my local dealer will help me out(not holding my breath).

I have a 2017 super white paint that is pealing. My truck was manufactured in Baja Mexico. Took my truck to the dealership and Auto body manager did a tape test on spots, which pealed off more paint, took pictures and sent claim to Toyota and documented an estimate of $4k to repaint. I called Toyota as he suggested and was told my vehicle is not covered. I’ve called Toyota USA customer engagement several times and filed a complaint. They documented my issues and told me if they add my Tacoma to the extended paint program I will get a letter. They have been covering many other Toyota vehicles (Camry, Corolla, Avalon, Highlander, etc ranging from 2008-2018) with same paint issue but not Tacoma. If you are having this issue please call Toyota to complaint. Enough complaints that are documented will hopefully pressure Toyota to add Tacoma to the program. The number for the Toyota Brand Engagement Center is (888) 270-9371

The drivers side rear door on my '18 TRD Off Road looks just like tacomaWULF's photo above. I took it to the dealer this morning, he photographed it and is sending it ti Toyota, requesting a "good will" repair. We will see, I am not holding my breath, but wanted the paint issue reported to Toyota Corp. to help them understand that the Super White paint thay are covering on their other models is also on Tacomas...

called Toyota yesterday, just to let them know and make a record of the paint failure. Didn't get any significant help, but they did give me a case number, so the paint issue is on record. I suspect each of us should do the same, or they will not know the extent of the issue.

I'm heading to the dealer tomorrow, mine has progressively gotten a lot worse over the last week. I'm afraid it will start going down the entire door.

Just noticed my front fenders are starting to flake where they meet the A
    pillar

Just noticed my front fenders have started to flake in the exact same spots.

Seems to be. I see alot more complaints about defective Super White paint than any other color. Autobody manager at the dealership I got mine at had 3 Super White Tacomas come in with the same problem.

From what I've read it may have been applicable to those manufactured in Baja Mexico but can't conform for sure.

Do you know where your truck was manufactured? The first number on your Vin is location. 5 is Texas and 3 is Mexico.

    3 - Mexico.

So, what first steps should one do?

Mine will be 4 years old this May and has about 42K on it.

    Service dept at the dealer?
    Call Toyota Corp?
    Live with the issue?

Yes, unfortunately the majority of 3rd gens with issues were 2016-18’s out of the Mexico plant(s). It’s a paint delimitation from the primer. Super White is clear-coat and white paint mixed together and then applied to the primer.

Most here are going to their dealer first to see what they say. Then they have it documented. Some are moving on to corporate to see if that helps. YMMV.

Once documented and one day Toyota finally ownes up to this you may be covered because you documented it.

There was a post a few pages back that stated Toyota had fixed the issue in 2020.

Also, a few claims that Toyota has recognized that this is an issue and will be covering repairs moving forward. This is has not been confirmed.

You may find some additional interesting information if you read through this thread.

I have a 2 year old 2020 with 040 Super White. So far so good. I’m hoping that the unconfirmed repair in 2020 is in fact true and my Texas made Tacoma doesn't develop this issue.

I wonder what month your 2019 was made in? Maybe November 2018?

Good luck with your endeavours to get your truck fixed. Hopefully Toyota just issues a complete public recall and fixes this for everyone involved.

Mine is a 2017 and was also manufactured in Mexico. Go to the service department at the dealer and tell them you want them to sent a claim to Toyota. The auto body manager at my dealership took pictures and submitted them to Toyota. Get it documented. Toyota denied me and I called Customer Engagement to find out why and they said your vehicle is not covered. Then I learned that Toyota established a program to cover super white paint (and blizzard pearl I believe) flaking on many other Toyota vehicles (Camry, Corolla, Avalon, Highlander, etc ranging from 2008-2018) with same paint issue but not Tacoma. I also called Toyota Executive offices to complain. I've been told if they decide to do anything I'll get a letter. Last night I complained on the Toyota USA facebook page how disapointing it is that Toyota is not doing the right thing for the same issue with Tacomas. We'll see if they respond. I am going to continue to be a pest.

I’m still curious as to why this happens to some people and not others. Is it weather related? How they treat their vehicles? Manufacturing date?
