Product idea, hoping it already exists.
-Steel bumpers are heavy, tube bumpers are ugly, hybrids are both. Does anyone make a lightweight steel bumper that's full plate but thin like 1/16", something that will absorb crash impact instead of transferring it to your frame&body but that you also aren't afraid of love tapping things with .. for an overlander instead of a rock crawler, if you will- no rich answers please ty.

Oh there will be some mods all right
Only company I can think of off hand that offers a thinner lightweight replacement bumper is fab fours. Or at least they did for the 2nd gen, not sure about 3rd gens.

@Larry Dangerfield 1/8" 65lbs thank you, that's pretty much what I'm after. Never liked FF bumpers but that one's not the worst. Still, I'll never buy it for $1800 and I have a 2.0 gen

As a small company designing Tacoma parts, I looked into this about a year ago.
Unfortunately market research lead me to the conclusion that most people want beefy despite a large majority of people never actually needing it.
Most of the manufacturing cost comes from labor (assuming material is ordered in bulk) so using thicker steel is a minor cost increase and reaches a much larger market.

For the lightweight bumpers 1/4“ aluminum is a great option but much more expensive.

I definitely agree that a light weight cheaper steel bumper would be nice as I see a lot of people ignore the GVWR of the Tacoma and only really need a steel bumper for the occasional accident on the trail and not romping on it every weekend.

out of curiosity what would be your price point for a front “lightweight” steel bumper?

1k but the style I want would be similar to the factory bumper, well contoured, not high clearance- Keeping my damn MPGs, thank you very much!

I got one off of craigslist and paid $500. At that price I was satisfied but had I paid full price I definitely would have been upset.

Perhaps I will build my own. Do you have any designs from when you were contemplating mass producing them :D

I unfortunately started with a rear bumper I have a rough design in Fusion360 for a rear tube bumper.

I do have a rough 3D scan of the front end of a 2014 Tacoma without the factory bumper though

I appreciate it, but I have a 2.0 gen so it wouldn't help too much
