Hey everyone. My 2002 2.7 4x4 has an oil leak coming from the oil pan weld. I did a temporary JB Weld fix last time I did an oil change but am planing on replacing the oil pan now.

Are our oil pans just sealed with the Toyota FIPG sealant without a gasket correct? Can FIPG be applied in cold temperatures? I'm planning to do the job soon in my unheated garage buts its the middle of winter in Canada and worried that the stuff might not cure properly. Could I place a space heater under the truck for a while once the pan is back on?

    Thanks guys

Needs to be warm. At least 15 degrees. It’s only fpig. Don’t use grey only the black.

Also recommend cleaning your oil pump pick up screen while the pan is off. It has a gasket but it’s metal so you can replace it or reuse it. I’d replace it.

15 Celcius or Fahrenheit? I'll definitely clean/replace the pickup screen

    Glad to hear!
Do you think that if I apply the sealant to the oil pan inside at room temp then keep a small space heater under the truck after I install the oil pan, it would work? I'd like to do this soon instead of waiting for spring?

It's not ideal, the sealant likes warmer temps. We try to do it when the cars are warmer, then let them cure longer as well. Usually 30 mins is fine in the summer, but winter we wait 2 hours if possible.

I'd say plan ahead for a warmer day, so above 0 ambient, then park it in the garage warm.

Just so you don't have to do it twice, its a pain to do.

Ya I'd hate to do it again since this seems kind of like a pain in the ass job.

Is the wait time you're talking about for letting the FIPG dry on the oil pan before installing it or waiting to add oil/start the vehicle once it's installed?
