    Hey Everyone!
I have 2 remote start fobs from my old corolla. Which was a 2014.
One of the fobs is a single button, which just started it.
The other has 3 buttons on it. I think, lock/unlock, and start

I have a 21 Taco. I'm wondering if there's a way to program one of the fobs to lock/unlock the truck?

What I do is I have my truck key on a single key ring, and the rest of the house keys on a separate ring. I used to keep the starting fob on the house keys ring. If I ever locked my car key in the car, I always had the fob in my pocket. Only happened once or twice, but happened anyways.

I'd like to not carry a second key, as the fob was really tiny.

My corolla was a bit weird. The aftermarket remote starter was for an automatic. My corolla was a manual transmission. It didn't have a safety switch incase the car was not in neutral.
So if I had ever only slightly pulled the handbrake for that safety switch but the car was in first. It would start and go. Slowly.

I do have the n2 remote starter in the Taco for the manual.

I'm wondering if it's possible to program an aftermarket fob to do what the lock unlock buttons do, but without the key.

the right chip has to be in the fob to be able to communicate with the car. i doubt your corolla fob has that chip but maybe theres a chance

They're just aftermarket ones. I do wonder though. Neither my 2010 Corolla or my 2014 Corolla that I had had a keyfob. They just had a plain old key. Which for sure inside was chipped for starting. but no buttons for lock/unlock. However when my friend installed the remote starter, the lock unlock function worked. So Somehow the functionality was there, just wasn't being utilized as they were lowest trim models.
Funny, when I went to get my 2010, I asked for roll up windows, and a manual. They didn't have the roll up windows in 2014. I did ask!

Is your tacoma fob has word "Tacoma" on it? If yes, most likely Corrola(or generic) won't work.
They added Vehicle ID in past few years to key ID

I know people who get a spare key cut (physical key, no programming) and hide said key in a key box tapped to the frame, hitch, front crash bumper, etc.

In a “locked out” scenario, you have an “on site” method to get into it, though with a little work to get it down. Not a big theft risk and it’d be a gamble to find that key just to rummage through the vehicle, and it wouldn’t start the vehicle for an actual theft of the vehicle.

It also costs about $40 (eBay key that mimics stock, plus the key cutting, plus tape and/or a magnetic key box).

Seems like it’d achieve what you’re after.
