Rust on Frame with A/C drain mod fix

I believe it’s still the same length hose so it will continue to drop water onto the frame without this mod

 

I just did this yesterday to my 4 day old truck that I picked up last week. It didn't look any different than the OP.

Gone through a lot of this thread. It does look like a dumb output spot, but it seems like more people are going to get rust from Zip ties rubbing on metal components than from the line dripping.

 

No zip ties used here. Out of the drain I turned left and passed it down through the cross member. It's not going anywhere.

That mod is great, but in the long run will the original drain rubber crack? Break? with added tension or weight???
Anyone had cons??

 

Shouldn’t, I mean all you’re doing is slipping a rubber hose over the original and tightening it a little bit with a hose clamp.

What I was a little worried about was the fact that some more tubing came out when I pulled on it a little bit because it took a minute for me to figure out that there wasn’t a nipple there at the firewall.

May have been a little slack in hose? Since a little bit more came out. I mean you would have to give it a real big yank for it to come off of the evaporator right? I’m assuming it’s clamped to a nipple on there? I just want to make sure it didn’t start pulling off internally or something. Or is it built into the evaporator somehow?

It wasn’t loose so should be good there. Kind of curious if anyone accidentally managed to yank their factory drain line out.

 

Managed to get mine installed fairly easily. Got some continental 5/8” heater hose from autozone, 7 bucks I think. Then got a 5/16” to 7/8” hose clamp, (looking back I should have gotten one a little bitter at maybe an inch or so I have a little more wiggle room to get it on the hose.)

Basicslly slipped the hose over the stock drain hose. Silicone spray helped. Ran it down near the cat, right next to the trans cooler lines, through that hole in the frame, and then out at the bottom next to the lower control arm.

You can see I attached zip ties to each other to wrap around that part of the frame. Some of you were mentioning a lack of zip tying, so there you go, haha. It works, haha. The rest is self explanatory I guess…

 

I just did this on my 2023. One plastic 1/2" PEX coupling and a piece of 1/2" ID thin wall rubber hose and this looks like it came from factory. No clamps needed.
I did use one zip tie to keep the tubing in position.

 

i have a 2022 and its still the same length and drops water onto my frame, a spring fix to do for me, that's after power washing off all the winter salt and then undercoating the truck with fluid film.

 

My 2023 is the same way. Photo can be seen in post #891 above.

I’m kind of shocked at how rusty the entire frame is.

 

I think a short tee fitting at the firewall will help prevent leakage inside the cab if the drain line gets plugged by insects. I'll try it out when I get my truck. I've had problems before extending a drain line and either it doesn't want to drain as fast as without an extension hose and causes a backup or insects plug the end of the hose. You guys that have done it would probably have had a problem by now so I might be looking for a solution that has no problem. Either way I'm definitely doing this mod right away. Thanks!

 

…another mod to put on the list. Next up is the Meso Customs LED tail light kit. Then I’ll get to the A/C drain.

 

When I put in my extra tubing for the ac drain fix, I went straight down and the tube wedged snuggly behind the plastic/rubber “curtain” that covers the passenger side wheel well. Is that an ok spot to route the tube? Most pics I see of the fix have the tube routing back behind the cats and down right under where the passenger seat would be. I didn’t have enough tube to run it that far, but can redo it after a trip to the hardware store if needed. Does it matter? Am I overthinking it?

 

What a great idea. It’s those little things that add up over time that make a big difference in the long run.
