Ordered BROGs attic a few months ago but there were either stock or e-commerce issues, so the order got cancelled. Decided to see if I could diy this. Cost about $25 in materials and 2-3 hours of time, but a lot of planning and thought went in.

2 x 1 inch nylon lashing strap. After thoughts, 1.25 or 1.5 inch would be better.

Nylon strap buckles & slides, After thoughts, more slides would have been better, but the hardware store only had these 2.

Oh shit handles don't use 10mm bolts anymore. Same clip as the coat hanger hooks. Gently pry off the cap, then squeeze the clip and pull. To reinstall, reassemble everything firsts, then push it in. Expect a loud pop, or its not in.

I used a hot (old) screwdriver to melt a hole in the web. This used 6 pieces of web, each 7" long.

When threading the buckles, I went "teeth up" which put the "tail" of the web towards the ceiling.

Once all 6 pieces were installed and buckles were threaded, I assembled the "frame". That's a window shade up there with my 5'4" daughter for perspective.

This is one place where I went in a different direction than the BROG Attic. the Attic attaches to the handle, and I wanted to attach at the mounting points.

    550 cord as edge support.

This is a 24"x36" mesh laundry bag, cut across the bottom to create a 36x48 sheet. I saved the nylon bottom for later.

This is the use for the nylon, cut into strips and hot-glued around the 550 cord edge, with the mesh wrapped around the cord.

Looks great! Especially for, what, like $80 vs DIY time and $25. Well done!

Thanks - Multiple edits made, and I plan to do much more trimming. Right now the only glue used is hot glue. I don't like that (especially in the ceiling of a vehicle) by itself, so I do intend to add some clear gorilla glue or something methylene chloride base (PVC glue). I have a 10 day trip coming up, will update after that.

Nice going! I was actually debating on doing a DIY attic here soon myself. We've got a 2 week trip coming up that I think this would be handy for.

I have @BlueRidgeOverlandGear attic in my 4Runner and it’s been super nice to have for my cross country trip. I did run some paracord over the top of it to help keep things secure. I used it to keep my camp pillows, air pads and on occasion, the sleeping bags. I only put soft stuff up there cause the thought of a camp chair flying at my head under heavy braking isn’t too appealing.

Looks like good work!! Nicely done OP.

FYI... for those interested in doing this. The company I work for does a lot of stuff with nylon strapping and webbing. I would suggest a cheap soldering iron vs the hot screw driver for burning holes, cut ends, and stray fibers. It is a bit safer, quicker, and more reliable results.
