Overall I really like my truck. From the factory I wish the throttle response was better and I wish the manual transmission gearing made more sense. Otherwise it’s a great truck and I don’t regret it. A tune fixed the throttle and gearing will fix my transmission complaints. I’d buy it again.

I've had my SR5 for 4+ years now and still enjoy driving it every day. It's a reliable, great-looking truck and it's held up well with minor maintenance and care. I'll definitely consider a Tacoma again, though I wouldn't mind checking out the Frontier too.

I've had my 2020 TRD Off Road for about 4 months and could not be happier with it. My first truck was a 1996 Tacoma when I turned 16 in 2016... I loved that truck. In 2020 I sold it for a lifted jeep wrangler and that was one of worst decisions I've ever made. Now that I am back in a (much newer) Tacoma I could not be happier. Build quality is top notch, MPG's are far better than my Jeep, and many other positive things too. I bought it with the plans drive it for 10+ years and don't see any reason why I won't be able to do that.

One thing to consider is that the wait times might be longer if you want another DCLB. I waited four months for a 2023 that I just picked up last Friday.

I’m very happy with my 18 sport. By far, best vehicle I’ve ever owned. None of the “TW complaints”.

A couple minor recalls, no mechanical issues whatsoever. I’m keeping it for at least 15+ years. Currently at ~40k miles.

I bought my '22 OR last June, so I have about six months of use to judge my experience by.

So far, I have enjoyed my truck quite a bit, though I went into it with tempered expectations. I did not expect the capabilities of the full size and after a test drive I knew the cabin would be small. I was willing to make some compromises to get my truck timely, to have something that fits in my garage, and to pay in cash without taking on debt.

I came from a 2007 Mercedes GL320 diesel. I miss things like the air suspension, towing capacity, and passenger room of that SUV. What I don't miss are the expensive repairs it took to maintain. After replacing the turbo, I knew it was time to be done.

Being only 6 months and 5400 miles old, my Tacoma is pretty new and has had no issues (as expected). Where it will really prove itself is the long term. Aside from failing at basic frame metallurgy (rust), Tacomas are supposed to be very reliable. My gamble is that with regular maintenance and yearly frame undercoating, I will be able to drive this truck for a long, long time.

I got my 2016 SR5 back in 2019, certified used with 58K on it.
I'm at around 87K now w/ no mods.
All of the major/serious issues that we read about on these forums....I haven't had any of them, i just keep up on the regular maintenance.
It makes noises when i start it and things might rattle when i drive it, because it's a truck, thats what all my previous trucks did and thats what all my future trucks will most likely do.
I enjoy it for what it is and I'm sure you will enjoy whatever you decide on.

Yep. My brother has a 2018 TRD OR 4x4 DCSB with 60k miles. I have a 2022 TRD OR 4x4 DCSB with 4900 miles. They are almost the same truck besides color.

Between the two, it is not even funny how much better my truck shifts than his did before it was tuned. It doesn't hunt (my commute is 10 miles downhill and back uphill at 70ish mph) and it doesn't have issues with shifting up too early and needing to downshift. When I initially got it the truck would grab 4th and then immediately go to 3rd but it stopped doing it around 1500 miles. The handling and build quality are all pretty similar otherwise.

It can’t be! According to TW, OEM
tires, suspension, paint, lights, interior lights, engine, transmission, interior plastics, batteries, and differentials are junk! :)

I love my 2021. Fixed all the nagging issues my 2017 had.

I would like better gas mileage, but it’s a truck not a Prius.

2017 Sport. Been a real good truck except for the battery dying at the 2 year mark just like everyone said it would.

    I love my girlfriend.
    She isn't perfect.
There are some things about her I don't like, but all in all, I wouldn't trade her in for another model.
Oh, I love my 2022 Sport ACLB 4X , also.

I absolutely LOVE my 2017 Off Road. Now, I will admit I have never owned, driven, nor even ridden in a 1st or 2nd Gen Tacoma. So I am unable to make any sort of comparison. Long ago I owned a 1980 2WD, standard cab Hilux for 10 years, and while it was damn good little truck, it was really small for me. My 3rd Gen Tacoma has plenty of leg and head room for me.

There are only things I do not like about my Tacoma, and neither have anything to do with which generation it is.

    * I want a long bed, but I do not do automatics. Why Toyota won't let you have a long bed with a manual transmission........ who knows.
    * Power/torque/fuel mileage. Many people share this opinion, that Tacomas are underpowered. I would love to have a 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine option, but the political conditions in the US will never allow it. Way back in the late 70's/early 80's when I was a kid, a next door neighbor had a diesel Toyota pickup. A diesel engine would also solve the really poor fuel mileage issue.

I am a first time truck owner and a first time Toyota owner having picked up a 2022 DCSB OR MT last June. I just passed 2k miles and don't drive much but I am happy with the purchase. My only complaint is that reverse is geared higher than I would like for something pitched as an off-road vehicle but I will likely add the 2-LO mod. MPG's aren't bad as I have been driving a Mitsubishi Montero for the past 25 years that averages 12-13mpg in the city and 17-18mpg on the highway - and it takes premium. After nearly 280K pretty much problem free driving, I bought the 2022 Tacoma because I wasn't interested in the direction Toyota is headed with the 4th gen. I would have liked to put off the purchase for a few more years but wanted something new and figured at my age it will likely outlast me whether I bought in 2022 or 2025. No doubt the next gen Tacoma will appeal to the newer generations of potential Tacoma buyers, but it's not what I would be looking for.
