My coolant reservoir has the pink "Japanese" original coolant. (170,000) I don't recall ever draining and replacing my radiator coolant. Coolant is not discolored, looks fine.

Question(s): When topping off my reservoir I have been using "Universal" Coolant now and then.
Is this OK or should I only use "Pink Japanese" coolant?

Should I drain and replace my coolant at 170,000 miles?

Lately I feel like I'm getting warmer than usual air coming into the cabin via the vents. Idiot gauge never goes past 1/2 way Hot/Cold

Drain and replace with the recommended type.

I don’t like mixing coolant brands.
If I do, I try to use the pink universal “Asian vehicles” type.

I would definitely do drain and refill on the system. It’s not particularly hard, and these engines aren’t know to air lock.

Top offs indicate there may be a problem, as it's a pressure sealed system and should not really have any loss.

While nice, it's not a good measure of the value of the coolant in terms of protection. An inexpensive coolant tester is a good thing to consider.

    I would.

I went down the coolant rabbit hole once. Coolant color vs type vs compatibility vs life. Long story short it was much easier to just go to the dealer and buy 2 gallons of premixed Toyota pink SLLC. No questions with compatibility at that point.

Also, by the book coolant is 100k mi / 10 years. And then every 50k / 5 yr after that. So yes probably worth doing

Yes you are way overdue for a drain and fill. That's how you get scale and particle stuff in the system, possibly clog the heater core
