My truck is a 97. I bought it in 2001 and the hood has done that since the day I bought it. I eventually stuck some foam between the sheet metal and underhood frame. It got 75% better

ps Jeeps are total shit IMO for long term reliability

Doesn't matter where you drive in texas, you could be going 95 in the fast lane, a clapped out Altima with a cracked windshield and bumper hanging off will pass you on the right side

OP talked about 06 Tacoma, resale price for used Tacoma is over $3k-$5 more, way overpriced.
So yes, for a high $$$ I don't want to see overheating/head gasket issues, unglued hood, rusted frame etc, otherwise the quality on par with Jeep/Ford/Chevy ...
I care less about the high $$$ new Jeep/Tacoma..., only $@#% will pay $50k-$60k for an expensive piece of metal $@#%.
The point is, why Toyota STILL produces new models with old issues and not learning from its own mistakes.
    ***
Hood Vibrating thread, read post #1105: "After all these years I can't believe some still have this issue".

I'll add even more, I can't believe after all these years 5.7L have cam tower oil leaks.

Simple answer is, because people will still buy them.

Engineers make make suggestions. Accountants make decisions.

Not trying to single you out, but you said it's "unacceptable" ..
like, what does that mean? Are you going to get rid of the truck after discovering this stuff? Leave toyota a 1 star review on yelp? Complain to strangers on the internet? Try and convince everyone here that we overpaid for our trucks?

Agreed, probably because like you said: "The difference is, it doesn’t usually break as soon as others."

And on another car, not a Toyota, which is more than 20 years old, this did not happen.
    So yes, junk Toyota's.

Yes, overpriced and you know that.
Unacceptable I mean to put cheap "glue" (under hood), cheap Toyota bond on the cam tower, cheap frame coating, thin paint, peeling coating ...
For a high $$$ used or new, this is unacceptable!
People pay for it, good for them.
But I'm not surprised why similar topics appear later.
    Why?
Because some was expected much more from the quality of Toyota, especially for such money.

it’s a 17 year old truck… what are you expecting it to do/be?

jeep has never been able to keep their door panels straight from the factory ever. Any removable door on a wrangler has bends and curls from factory. But a 17 year old Tacoma starts showing it’s age and it’s “I’m going back to jeep”

Good luck going backwards in quality and reliability. They’ve been at the bottom of every reliability study just about every year I’ve been alive.

My move - maybe someone from Toyota will read all these topics and put much better quality glue under the hood.

I suspect its the roof as well because the headliner and dome light assembly dont seem to stay all the way up and held in place, i just havent had the courage to go through dropping the headliner just to confirm my suspicions.

clearly Toyota spent all of their resources developing reliable powertrains and spent the leftover budget on bubblegum for body assembly and frames that crumble at the whiff of a salty fart

I do think epoxy is possible but dont trust myself not to warp the hell out of the panels

my work commute is all highway and doing 80 is moving with the traffic flow, im not trying to beat Vin Diesels top speed or anything

Sorry if i stirred the pot with the Jeep comments, it was totally intentional. :rofl:ive had several and loved them in spite of their flaws. This is my first toyota and ive heard great things so i figured id test the water. I guess i just wasnt expecting something to be made in a way thats so “disposable” like a 9.99 toaster, dont fix it, throw it away and get another. I can live with the minor issues and im handy and resourceful enough to fix actual problems.

And yes i’d actually be pretty bent about this if i made a new purchase but i got the truck as a trade so it didnt cost me a dollar.

Hopefully ive added some humor to everyones day
