Considering this 3" lift kit from Toytec

    Hi. I am new to tacoma world and brand new to this world of modifications. I admit, i dont know a whole lot about vehicles. Pretty much the basics. I have a 2011 toyota tacoma off road in pyrite mica with 152,000 miles . Ive always wanted a lift. It looks sharp and it could help me at times based on what i do for hobbies. I use my tacoma for every day use. Going to work, running errands etc. I also ride alot of logging roads up here in maine. I do have areas with wash outs, large rocks, ruts, mud etc. I do alot of driving on snow and ice on these roads as well. I was thinking of a 3 inch lift. This one on toytec. Tuff country 53910kn 3" lift kit with uni ball control arms and sx8000 shock absorbers. I have a budget and cant break the bank, but need something durable. This one runs for $970 i believe. I would like to update my rims too. I have 16" tires currently. I was thinking some bronze wheels by fuel. I have 265 75 16 falken wildpeak at3w lt right now and love them. I would like to get larger ones if possible. I was thinking 285 75 16 which are 32.83 x 11.22 or 255 85 16 which are 33.07x10.04. At some point i would really love a roll bar as well and maybe fender flares. So, any recommendations, advice? Is this a good lift kit? What should i go with? What size tires can i fit and what should i go with? What size rims? Any other things i am not thinking of? I know ill also need an alighnment and spare tire? Anything else? Thanks for your help

    That Tuff Country kit is $1300 on their website. The kit does not include front shocks. With 150K miles, it appears to me you would want to get new shocks; thus, a better way to raise the front is with 5100 shocks, or OME coils and new non-adjustable shocks. OEM UCA’s are good up to 2.75” lift - what you’d get from OME 2885 coils.
    A new spare is only needed if the OD will be greater than quarter inch difference, width don't matter. If you intend to rotate the spare into the tire rotation, then get an identical size.
    Other parts you should replace are the front shock hats. Also, add a quarter-inch ‘lean’ spacer to driver side.

    What's your budget looking like?

    If you can spend a little more to get ahold of coil overs rather than a spacer lift your ride quality will improve a lot. Spacer lifts only push your strut down farther which throws the geometry off and makes the ride much more jarring, usually they're only recommended if you want the aesthetic of a lift rather than the functionality.

    Looking at some Bilstein 5100/5160's, OME Nitro Chargers, or Dobinson IMS kits. I'm sure there are more that I can't think of.

    For the kit itself i was hoping for $1000 give or take. Im looking for dependability and best ride i can get for everyday use, off roading, etc.

    I found on toytec 3 inch full lift kit with upper control arms for $970 by tuff country. You think that is a pretty good option?

    I don't know much about tuff country, I don't know much about Tuff country but from what I've read it doesn't seem to be high quality so I would steer away. I cheaped out on my lift the first time around and wish I had spent the extra money instead of doing it twice. If you're looking at Toytec I would get the Boss 2.0 Shocks, a family member of mine has that kit on their 2019 Tacoma and it's great for daily driving and light off-roading. They've also got an Eibach kit which is around your budget.

    I can’t speak to the tuff Country stuff, I don’t have experience. I did buy the Toytec Aluma 2.0 front and rear with their Add a Leaf. The ride wasn’t for me as they put 700lb springs on all their coil overs. I changed them to a 14” 600lb spring and it helped slightly. The rear was super harsh as well and I got a new leaf pack and its still a bit harsh. I bought new Fox stuff and its way better. Depends what kind of rid you want. Accutune can help you decide as they do so much R&D on how to get the best out of the stuff they tune. Give them a call. They focus on King and Fox mostly but I think you can get a decent Fox coil over without a resi for a decent price.

    I am going to go with 285s or 33s. Ive noticed many tacoma owners with mods go from a 16inch tire and rims to 17s. What is the reasoning? Should i as well? Should i get rims with an offset? If so, how much?

    There are many more 17" options available is usually the reason I see. My reasoning as well.
