So I did a search and the only thing that comes up is preventing my tail gate from being stolen .
I am trying to diagnose why my tailgate wont close .
The mechanisms on either side seem to be working .
Lubed the hell out of them . Still not closing .
Is there a write up somewhere ?

I’m sure you have checked, but it sounds like an obstruction at the bottom. I had it one time after hauling a load of gravel

You are going to have to remove the plastic side of the tailgate. There are a few small parts in there that rust up or just Break because the tailgate is quite a weak point.

You'll need a torque bit. I forget which size.
Once you get in there, you can see all the mechanisms and how poorly constructed the tailgate is. Really not designed for handling a truck load.

Are the bedsides still straight? Maybe bed stiffeners might help.

If you do have to remove the tailgate skin, have some new nylon grommets on hand. They strip out wicked easy.

    I think its 90189-06010

Can you tell if it is one, or both sides? I had one side fail. I did not try to pull apart the mechanism. Simply ordered a new one. 10 minute job if you go that way.
