Has anyone tried the 27F AGM from Costco?

My battery is finally due, looking for a decent option. The Costco 27F AGM has a low reserve capacity (120 rc), while most regular 27s are like 165. The Northstar is 195. That's my only concern..

Edit* Might just stick to the AutoZone Duralast (I've run em for years) my current one is beaten to hell,5 yrs old, handled the Vegas heat and is somewhat still alive. Might grab another or just try the Costco 27F non-AGM.

I spoke with a guy that worked at a nearby battery factory. He said all of the non-AGM batteries came off the same production line and had the exact same internals. Costco, Walmart, Interstate, Duralast, etc…

3 year , 5 year, etc.. they’re all the exact same with different labels.

Clarios is the name of the manufacturer, it was formerly called Johnson controls.

He also said the only difference between the batteries is the specific gravity of the acid.

Thanks - Johnson was the name I always heard. So if specific gravity is just the amount of charge - does that matter since your alternator will charge it once installed ??

The specific gravity, SG, of the electrolyte in each cell of a battery shows the battery's state of charge: Fully charged, SG = 1.280. Three quarter charged, SG = 1.240, Half charged, SG = 1.200, Quarter charged, SG = 1.160, Discharged, SG = 1.120.

O'Reilly's. About $125 I think, 2 year warranty. Replace every 3 years whether it needs it or not.

After my battery gave up the ghost it was probably 6 years old. I was forced to get a AAA battery. This happed again and again it was AAA. Then I noticed it was failing and before it did I picked up a AC Delco Silver FS with 600 cca. I’m certain it will last much longer than the previous two. It didn’t hurt as I got my friends discount. Total price $130. I asked about interstate and he said no. Called up and got me the ac.

Anybody have any experience with this new battery I have now?

I have the 84 month battery and it's been about 5 years with no problem at all. The battery before this on went 7 years before I replaced it.

I got a Duracell 27F battery because it’s made by East Penn manufacturing, which I was told was good. They also make Deka batteries, which were hard to find. It has a 36 Month Free Replacement warranty.

love my X2 Power 27F AGM from batteries plus. Northstar makes it. Its also a deep cycle. However, i wanted something really good since quality control is trash now. Plus, i tow roughly 2,900lbs twice a week during the summer since i mow for a living. I wanted my truck to run at maximum efficiency since the tacoma is honestly underpowered. Also, i go tent camping twice a year with a group. So, i rely on my truck for power. 930cca at 0 degrees and 190min reserve capacity

    My original lasted 5.5 years.

Replaced it with an Interstate 27F from Costco. At 3.5 years old the sound when starting was a little different, just slightly more strained. (You folks and I would notice it, but most people wouldn't!) It never left me stranded/needing a jump start. Stopped by Interstate and they tested it, said it was down a bit but I didn't get the numbers. Said I should plan to replace it soon.

Proactively replaced it with the same thing as it's only $110 at Costco. Not worth it to me to wait for it to die.

My '09 Tacoma was built in November of 2008.

In October of 2014 (6 years) the OEM Group 27F battery died. I almost died when I saw what Toyota wanted for a replacement. That day, I spliced 2" of AWG #6 wire onto the negative lead (which, according to my notes, cost me <$20 for wire, the correct size butt splice, and heat shrink tubing), which enabled me to use a non "F" battery in my truck. The next day, I bought a Walmart Group 27 Deep Cycle Marine battery for $87 in Massachusetts, and I changed the battery in the Walmart parking lot. In November of 2021 (7 years later), while the battery load/resistance tested OK at Advance Auto Parts, I decided that I was pushing my luck, and bought my second Group 27 Deep Cycle Marine battery from Walmart. This time it cost me $92 with Florida's state tax. I am still running that battery today.

    [EDITING TO ADD]
EverStart Lead Acid Marine & RV Deep Cycle Battery, Group Size 27DC 12 Volt, 740 MCA = 937.5 CCA - I see that the price is up to $94.
    [/EDIT]

You do you. However, despite the forum-know-it-all predictions of short circuits and the need for a $300+ AGM battery every 5 years in every vehicle (you guys crack me up); in the 10 years that I have been running with the extra 2" of negative lead, and Marine Deep Cycle batteries in my truck, I have had no DC or battery related issues! MY total cost for batteries in the 15 years that I have owned my Tacoma has been <$200.

So just a new one for me figured I’d share.

My wife’s suby 2018 forester 22k miles has remote start.
    It has stock battery.
It would start then shut off.
I checked voltage cold 12.2 ok.
    Checked running 14 +\- ok.
Didn’t do a load test must have had a bad cell.
Replaced with a Walmart agm 190$ total 4yr replacement. My first Walmart battery so we shall see how it holds up.
Remote starter uses tach and voltage to see if it’s running.
Car started with key and functioned properly.
My 18 taco still has factory battery at 57k.
