Anyone have any luck finding a good clutch upgrade for a 2022 trd off road?

Do you have a problem you’re trying to solve? The stock clutch is pretty dang good for general use. If I were going with an ‘upgrade’, I’d look at Centerforce. I wouldn’t go with URD or other brands, only stock or CF personally. The CF comes with a heavier flywheel for more low speed torque/engine momentum.

If you aren’t having any problems with what you’ve got, I’d leave it alone. If you don’t like the vague unpredictable clutch release feeling, deleting the clutch accumulator is the fix for that, and not messing with the clutch itself.

I took my truck in to Toyota, telling them I would have problems putting it into first gear once in a while. It felt like a synchro issue. But because of that, I was starting my truck in second gear a lot, so I understand there being extra wear and tear on my clutch. The dealership didn’t even look at the synchro. They came to the conclusion that my clutch is worn out and needs a new one asap. (Truck only has 7,000 miles).

I’m getting a second opinion this week, but in the meantime looking at upgrading my clutch if I’m going to have to replace it anyway. Doing a desert chase build.

Also the dealership is trying to charge me $2,500 for parts and labor. Seems excessive.

It's the MT fluid. Swap it out for Redline MT-90 and that 1st gear thing will be gone.

The other trick for that, if you're blocked out of 1st, flick it into 2nd, then go back to first.

Starting out in 2nd all the time is not going to be good.

If it won’t go into first, shift it into a few other gears with the clutch in. Should line everything up and will drop right in. That’s some ridiculous clutch slipping to burn out the factory clutch in 7k miles.

    Welcome to the forum.

I found mine notchy and stubborn to go into gears frequently too. Although the gears never ground I could feel the syncromesh working through the stick, I shift (and drive) pretty slowly.

A work around at a stoplight is to shift in to second gear and then without releasing the clutch pedal shift into first, it seemed to align first better.

I saw an instant improvement when I changed the factory fill for Motorcraft XT-M5-QS at 30K, it meets Toyota specifications. The gear selection difficulty was gone immediately along with the syncromesh feel and the transmission felt slicker overall. At 48K now and it shifts very nicely. The Motorcraft fluid has quite a reputation for "fixing" brand new balky shifting transmissions with sports car drivers.

    https://www.motorcraft.com/us/en_us...ull-synthetic-manual-transmission-fluids.html

Rock Auto had the best price when I purchased it.

The company will never warranty clutch as it is considered a wear item. If the truck drives without slippage I would try changing the fluid first.

Over the years I've driven many cars which were difficult to shift into first; long ago, probably in the late 1970s or early 1980s, I got into the habit of shifting into second before shifting into first; problem solved.

This whole thread is insane to me. Starting out in second gear.
After driving a gazillion miles on a manual car/ truck / construction equipment / tractor

    What ?

I think the thrust of the discussion is for the OP to quickly shift to second before going into first (without engaging the clutch). Starting out in second gear is hard on a clutch and will shorten its lifespan.

    All stock.
I’ve sometimes had difficulty putting shifter into 1st after sitting at a light in neutral. To get it into first, just let the clutch out press it in again, then it’ll go into 1st no problems. Been driving sticks for 32 years and this is common to many of my vehicles. As far as starting out in 2nd, that will definitely fry your clutch disc prematurely. I’ve routinely gotten 160,000 miles on a clutch in city/hwy driving.

I think the OP needs to change the fluid in the trans to what ever fluid that helps it shift better .
Then No disrespect but get some good lessons on how to properly drive an manual trans vehicle. Now could there be an issue somewhere, yes possibly . But this seems very strange

Yeah dude I’m not understanding what seems strange.

But I’ll for sure change the fluid, that seems to be the consensus in this thread for fixing the issue with it not wanting to go into first all the time. That and trying to stick it in second then back into first with the clutch in.

I’ve changed the fluid twice. I still get blocked out of 1st occasionally. It’s not a clutch or fluid issue, it’s just a synchro not being lined up issue. Going to second gear before first fixes that. It doesn’t happen all that often and seems to be happening less as the trans gets older. I’m at 20.5K miles now.

Personally I wouldn’t bother with fluid myself after the experiences I’ve had.

Yeah I don’t think the clutch is burnt out already, I feel like this Toyota dealership is trying to get money out of me.

A squeak is not the MC, it's the pedal and return spring pivots. The MC in the 3rd Gen is much better than the plastic one that was in the 2nd Gens.

Sorry that it worked out badly for you though.
