If I'm in the boonies for a week, the 4R is miles away. Nooby fridge question. Do you need a duel battery set-up?

I don't think it's 100% necessary, but a good idea. I should probably let folks who actually have fridges answer, though.

It's not 100% necessary, but it does largely depend on how you are doing things. I'd say at minimum you're going to want a good AGM battery as your main starter. If you plan on driving every day that will recharge it in most cases except maybe when it's really hot outside.

I went with a 12V house battery because I plan on trips doing multiple days offgrid where I won't be driving. Mainly elk hunting in the New Mexico mountains where we might be in extreme heat and possibly in the field for weeks at a time. Overkill for most people, but going that route I don't have to worry about power as much. It is a big investment up front but lithium is supposed to have great longevity so ROI is pretty good long term.

Quick edit: You can also run them off things like Jackery/Bluetti/etc small all-in-one powerbanks but to me those are overpriced.

I have considered a secondary battery, with an inverter, as opposed to a Jackery, etc. But, I have a hard time justifying these types of mods because I'm never off the grid for longer than a few days.

    Good insight! Thank you!

I just went with a generator. Plenty of power there!

Maybe we should start some type of a support group.

I thought this was a support group. But, like a really shitty one where we encourage bad behavior.

No problem, glad to share. It is a giant rabbit hole to dive down when you go that route. I'm not going to pretend I'm a genius on the subject but now that I've done it once and researched more than most reasonable people would I'm happy to help if anyone ever has questions.

The bad things are what makes it such a good support group!

    Definitely something worth considering.

I actually kept a cooler in the 4Runner for an entire summer ('21, I think). I was going out of town so often, I just kept adding ice rather than unloading everything into the fridge and back into the cooler every week. I probably spent well over $200 on ice that summer (maybe even over $300). So, I started thinking about fridges. But, I didn't do that this past summer, so I forgot about the whole thing.

Shit, now I'm thinking about a fridge again. :bananadead:

Who is the chief enabler? That ought to be the question of the day!

Isn't it a round table? (or maybe circular firing squad?)
