No way I got the strength to “hand tighten” only.
If you can tighten a 3/8” fitting enough by hand. You are a beast.
I use a channel locks, basin wrench, or an adjustable wrench.

Plumbing fixtures/connections that are too tight can cause leaks, but yes wrench. Snug and a little more. At least that's how do it. :burp:

Personally I’m not a plumber, but like an oil filter once the gasket makes contact to the surface you really shouldn’t compress it more than necessary. If it is a compression fitting same goes, you don’t want to compress past the exhaustion of the material otherwise you can actually re open the fitting seat.

That is just my experience. So yes I use a wrench but only to tighten enough so the seat of the gasket or compression fitting.

Adjustable wrench and a little bit past hand tight is what I go with, typically a turn past hand.

Now on other metal threaded fittings, yea those suckers get cranked down...

Opted to go with a matte black faucet from Glacier Bay. Really wanted to go with Moen or Delta. After looking at many fixtures today, decided GB fit the best. Money was the driving factor.

I think the matte black faucet against the stainless tub will look slick.

To be honest, once I’m jammed up INSIDE the cabinet, I couldn’t tell you how many turns.
I go by feel. Once I feel resistance, I go a little more.

I’m not a plumber, I hate plumbing. I’d rather dig ditches with a hand shovel.
And those stupid old school shut off valves can go to hell.
They always leak once you turn the water back on.
And it’s a 50% chance that tightening the stem nut will stop it.

I just replace them with 1/4 turn ball valves anymore.

    HD guy was on point
I like to kinda jiggle the supply line with free hand while hand tightening so it doesn’t bind
Then 1/2 turn with a wrench. Turn water on, if it leaks tighten in 1/4 turn increments until it stops leaking or you mangle the gasket lol

This convo reminds me of the guys that over-tighten the nut on a tablesaw blade so you have to use a 3' pipe wrench with a 4' snipe on it to change the damn blade lol

    I don’t have a table saw.
But I’ll use what ever it takes to get it tight:D

My craftsman battery powered circular saw uses an Allen wrench.
It even has a built in “holder” for the wrench:thumbsup:

    The bade hasn’t flown off…….yet?

A couple months back one of my co-workers skil saw died on the job. I handed him one of my spares and told him to get it back to me when he replaced his. A few weeks went by and he gave it back to me. A few days ago I finally needed to use that saw. It's my concrete blade/steel demon blade saw. I went to take the 24 tooth framing blade out and I couldn't get the nut to budge. At all. After grabbing my 18" crescent wrench I finally managed to get the blade changed. This guys been a framer for as long as I have but he still tightens saw nuts like a rookie. lol

As far as supply line go. If it's got a rubber washer: hand tight and 1/2 to full turn with a wrench. If it doesn't have a gasket: pipe dope, teflon tape then tighten that fucker like your a rookie tightening a saw blade. lol

It's not nearly as bad as flux when it hits 95 degrees. That shit turns to liquid and then gets knocked over in your tool kit. Thereby requiring you to not only purchase more flux but too also clean that shit off of everything. lol

Side note: if you don’t tighten the lid on pvc primer and it spills on your tape measure it will melt the guts

Also can anybody honestly say they have put a lid back on a can of purple death where it doesn’t leak if inverted or shaken
that stuff is more penetrative than wd40.

And it will stain the shit out of a brand new bathtub when one of your students decides to glue an overhead vent coupling without putting down some kind of dropcloth lol

I’ve not had any problems with the lids.
But the “swab” definitely absorbs way too much.
As soon as you touch anything it drips and runs.
I usually try to “squeeze” some out on the edge of the can.

Back when I had to run a new water line for our house. I lost a sock, a shoe, and had a purple foot for 3 days. You don’t get that stuff out. The stain is permanent.

On a side note. The ditch witch you rent from Home Depot cuts nicely through asphalt. You know the “shortest distance” blah…blah,……
