@taco_tuesday6228 seems like a decent guy. Let’s try not to run him out of town like these threads usually go.

I appreciate you. You wont run me out, even I know I'm a douche for asking and expecting some sort of magic answer I hadnt considered for my unique, personal situation. That being said, anyone got a magic answer I hadnt considered for my unique, personal situation?

I don't think anyone here is being ''that guy'', buy the truck the fits your ass and your wallet. And before you get mad at me, I mean no disrespect. Hope it all works out.

I hate saying it like this, but buy what you want. Nobody cares but you.

A truck was never in my plans with 2 children born in 1990 & 1994.

Living in England with our first, I bought a used, right hand drive 5-Speed Celica--I banged my head every time I put our daughter in the backseat.

New assignment to TX, enter SUV--1993 Isuzu Rodeo, 5-Speed which my wife could not get the hang of operating. Reason why I've been driving Auto since.

Next a 1996 Honda Accord LX Sedan until buying the first Gen 2003 Honda Pilot EX/Leather in 2002--plenty of room for all.

It wasn't until the accident on Oct 3, 2018 that changed my path to the Tacoma--I have to admit I wanted the Tundra but wife convinced me otherwise. lol

The Tacoma's back seat is tight...great for short rides--No comparison to the Pilot.

In this case, it sounds like an MT is the priority. Get what you want or take an alternate route with a different class of vehicle.

Sounds like a Tundra might fit your needs better if you’re gonna have tall people in the truck at all. Maybe look for a newer, lower mileage Tundra.

I have zero belief a "new generation" taco will drive the value down on my 3rd gen nor look better.
I've seen "prototype" pics of the 4th gen (we know they aren't always factual) but I think what I've seen is ugly as hell.
In fact, the last gen of a production usually holds its value the most.
I know I got a lot of $ for my 21 Subaru STI

    Funny story time...

I actually wanted the Odyssey but my family voted for the Pilot.

My vasectomy was done in 1996, couple of months before I went to PSAB (Prince Sultan Air Base) Saudi Arabia just after Khobar Towers attack.

Live in the now. Not the future. Buy what you want now. If you want the new one in a few years trade up. If you always think this way you will never buy anything.

He’s looking at 5.7 Tundras. None of those get anything that starts with a 2 for mpg.

I had a 2019 Tundra SR5 CrewMax that I bought new and drove until the end of last November when I downsized/upgraded to a Tacoma TRD Pro. The suggestion I would give is first make sure the vehicle fits your needs, and then get what you want. Don't buy a bigger vehicle because you think you may need it or use it. I did, and a few years later I had to spend more money to get what I wanted in the first place. If you don't tow anything, ever, there's zero reason to get a Tundra over a Tacoma unless you will haul your family. Not might haul, WILL haul. Both will hold value very well, so either one will be easy to trade/sell toward something else should the need arise.

Everything I miss about my Tundra
    • Rolldown rear window
    • Rear window defroster
    • Factory trailer brake controller
    • V8 sound

Does any of that just scream must have to you? If it does, you might give the Tundra a longer look.

Final question/thought, and apologies if already answered as I did not read the entire thread; What trim is the Tacoma you are looking at?

    Woah woah woah.

Give TFL a 5.7 tundra for their towing test. Tell ‘em to stomp on it. They might get 2 mpg’s

    A 2014 Tundra getting 20-24 mpg?
OP has a 2014, maybe he can tell us what he gets?
I was telling him to KEEP his Tundra.

    Because I don’t know anyone with a 5.7 Tundra getting 20+ mpg?
