I would definitely rebuild the rear caliper.

I use my rear brake a lot, corners, starting off from stops, just because I can…
Hopefully the KLR brakes hold up.

Good news and bad news kind of day. Swung through the new motorcycle store over in Moscow that bought out the inventory (and more importantly stash of old honda parts) of the Pullman store to see if those Groms they listed on their site actually exist. Good news: they do.

They also had a sweet monkey with a plaid seat, hadn't seen that detail on 'em before:

    and a few others:

Bad news is that the Groms they had in stock don't have gold wheels. Whomp whomp. They used the wrong stock honda photo online, sigh.

I liked the new panels in person way more than when I've seen them online. Online doesn't show the dimensionality of it well. Fingers crossed they stay in stock until the Navi's future owner comes and gets it.

I tough only the SP grom came with gold wheels (the special white one)? Unless they changed it for the 2023s. Also the plaid seat is a new addition for the Monkey. There's a company that makes a cafe racer style seat for them that looks a lot slimmed down compared to OEM but is reported to be one of the most comfortable of the aftermarket seats.

Dealerships down here have a hard time getting either in stock and when they do, they're usually sold before they're even unloaded off the truck. I still want one, but would like to test trade both the grom and monkey to direct compare the ergo on both. That's really the only thing holding me back- I already squirrel away the money to just write a check for either.

edit: couldn't help but notice that the dealership shares your name. Might be able to swing a good deal because you "know the owner"...

I liked the silver 2023 better than the 2022 blue. And yeah, apparently only the ABS version which is also the SP one in 2023 comes with gold wheels/gold forks. As much as I don't want ABS on it, it might be worth the extra $300 for the wheels alone. I might email them tonight and see if they can't order one in, maybe.

I wish I could swing a deal on the name haha. This store started as a stihl and cub cadet dealer offshoot from Spence Hardware, a true value store. I guess the kid running the Spence Sales is Brian Spence. Neither of the two guys working inside had name tags on, so I wasn't sure who to bring up the name conversation with!

Come up to WA and buy this one, do a crazy fly and ride

Dang! Just saw the SP only comes with abs now. The 2022 SP models had the option for either. The SP scheme was a $150 “upgrade” for the paint, gold forks and wheels but you could still add on abs for another $300.
If that’s the deal breaker I’d buy the regular one and just have the wheels powdered. It should be less than $300 for the two 12”ers and you can still avoid abs.

The E just happened to be on sale and was dirt cheap, and they're super low maintenance. I barely even remember to change the oil and it just keeps running.

Took the bike out today and rode over to my friends shop to get some work done on his lathe. He had 2 awesome bikes in there. And more outside.

Im working on a project of making my own gps mount similar to this. But im not going to pay $90 for it. Im $10 in.

I wonder if you could ride it to somewhere with an Amtrak station, I think Spokane has one, and throw it on as cargo. Slightly less exciting trip though haha

I already got an email back from the dealer, they have an ABS version scheduled to ship to them on January 23rd and he's going to give me a call when it comes in.

Not if I rode the train in full ATGATT. Haha.

really I could get one here, but I’d essentially have to buy it before test riding and that’s my hold up. One of my new offices is right down the street from the largest SoCal Honda Powersports dealer, so I might stop by next time I’m there.

I haven't actually heard of that issue before! Thanks for letting me know. I'll have to look into it before taking the bike out again. It's been raining so hard in NorCal that all the OHV parks have been washed away or shut down for the foreseeable future.

its a known thing on a drz but its more common on the early years. basically a nut on the crank that holds like 3? sprockets together can come loose... and when it does your sprocket for the cam chain will shear off the woodruff key and no longer spin so then the piston makes new friends! called your valves... i was lucky and mine died at a stoplight when trying to start the bike back up so all i did was bend the valves... still cost me about 600 to rebuild the top end thou.... some are not so lucky where it will snap off the valve and cause damage to the piston and other internals.

most of the newer bikes got the "fix" from Suzuki which is Loctite.... so most of them dont have the issue

I think the previous owner had put in a big bore kit already in the thing so I'm hoping it was done, but I will look into it just to make sure.

if it has a big bore then idk it depends if they did a stroker kit as well because if its only a big bore you can take the top end of the bike apart without touching the bottom but if you do a stroker then you will need to remove the piston which means splitting the case so that nut would have to come off
