I'm looking to add aux control of my reverse lights (now just a pair of SSC2s, not using factory lamps anymore) and came across this thread
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/factory-reverse-lights-on-a-switch-diy.509314/
which seems to point to the easy circuits to tie into, but aside from MESO's comment about a diode and the last post of
there seems to be no consideration for backfeeding the factory circuit (I think the switchpros is probably protected internally).

Adding diodes inline to the factory circuit is a little clunky in that space, but with TSS it almost sounds like it is necessary? (although with my manual transmission maybe it won't have that error?) What module controls the reverse lights?

hoping to hear some thoughts on this (or whatever threads this topic is discussed in that I haven't found yet)

    thanks

I did end up getting my reverse lights on a switch, but I had to run wire all the way to the rear then tie the wires into the factory reverse harness with a diode. I have had it running for over a year and it works great.

When I have put reverse lights on a switch, I just left the switch manual. If I needed light, I just turned it on.

It also allows aux light for trailer hookups, etc.

Not to mention the ability to fluster tailgaters at 40mph.

And no, I never forgot and left them on. But I was younger then too. :D

I have left mine on so many times and realized it 10 minutes into my drive.... I have left my strobes on too a few times. I am considering putting some LEDs in the trim over the cluster that light up when these things are on.

I did use switches that illuminated when the lights were on. Is that cheating?

Not cheating, I did too, but mine are in the overhead so they are not in my vision when driving. I also used OEM style switches, so when on they look nearly the same as off.

I didn't have that option on a '59 Chevy truck (and no stock BU lights) or a 71 AMC that I wanted auxillary lights only. And since I only used them at night, the illuminated switches were fine.

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
Plenty of room for a diode if you pull your trigger wire for reverse off of the trailer wire harness.
