I wonder if they commonly employ padding or foam or something beneath the covers (similar to shoulder pads in a suit jacket or stuffing a bra, for example) to throw people off.

Still has the squared off Tundra profile it looks, but yep its different and makes you guess with all the camo. Part of me hoping it looks like a small Tundra and hate it cause I love my 22, but part of me also wants it to be awesome so I can stay a loyal Taco owner (on number 13 lol).

Looks like the large PCD hubs are gone, which I think give the the truck stronger axels. 4G might end up being a nice truck, but I don't think it should wear the Tacoma name plate.

If you look at the profile there is a horizontal bar jutting out at what I would guess to be just below the grille and it doesnt protrude out at the sides of the bumper/grille divide line like the tundra

The bolt pattern for the wheels on the 2024 is going to be the same as 1995-2023: 6x139.7 with a 106.1 mm hub bore.

I would expect the axles to be similar but smaller than the other larger vehicles on this platform, which is to say, similar to the current Tacoma but modified to fit the new coil spring/link suspension. I suspect 200 mm front and 225 mm rear differentials, similar to the 2016-2023 manual transmission/locker differentials.

As far as transmissions go, I doubt you'd see anything other than a 6-speed or 10-speed, but I may be wrong on that. The only existing 8-speed in Toyota's wheelhouse that would potentially work would be the AA80E/F series, but it's never been used in trucks. The existing 6-speed or the new 10-speeds developed for with or without hybrid seem like good candidates.

The 1GR is already used in the new platform with the AC60F 6-speed transmission, so the current Tacoma V6 powertrain is literally bolt in. If it still meets current economy/power targets, I could definitely see Toyota keeping the current 2GR-FKS powertrain for the new truck, at least for a few years, especially if they plan to offer a manual transmission at all.

It would be super rad of them to bolt a manual transmission behind one of the new engines though, just you know... for fun. I think the only current generation Toyota engines with a manual transmission I can think of are the G16E-GTS, M15A-FKS, and M20A-FKS.
