Who else is conflicted with immediately upgrading the tires on your new taco? I was able to test the stock tires in snow this week, and they aren't great. But is it worth the investment to upgrade already and effort to try and sell low mile take off tires? I am so conflicted and I'm sure I'm not the only one of us newbies.

No one who expects to use the truck is conflicted.

Tires are the biggest single improvement you can make for unfriendly driving conditions. Other than driver skill.

Used tires have limited resale appeal. Particularly OEM tires. People get rid of them for the same reason you are. If you want new tires get them. Don’t expect a high resale on the old tires.

Tires were the first major thing I changed and I never thought twice about it. I tried to get the dealership to put better tires on it before I left the lot but they wouldn’t do it.

All terrain tires were night and day better over crappy the stock Toyo’s that came on my truck. They were pretty much useless on anything but dry pavement.

    OEM tires are for corollas.

Trucks are sold with boring tires to get good emission and fuel economy ratings.

I vote buy a new set and enjoy the truck to its fullest. Make sure to get a severe weather rated set.

My conflict is about getting rid of a usable new product so easily when I know there are people who are in need. This makes me wonder about donation options, where I could know that they would get to someone who really needs new tires of this size.

Agree, not just the resale value but the process of transferring take off tires. I'd hate them to just end up in a landfill.

Why wouldn't you? I usually have the dealer put on the tires I want before driving it off the lot. Life is too short to deal with less than ideal tires.

2600 miles in on my Tundra I swapped the stock Michelins for BFG KO'2's. Still got the Michelins sitting around waiting to be sold. I've been lazy on advertising them. Nothing wrong w/ michelins but I wanted a truck tire. Now I'm 2500 miles in on my taco's Goodyear territory's and I'm swapping them out for K02's as well.

You can put those ones back on for the summer. I did that my first year. Then it felt like I got some use out of them :D

Great idea and should not be difficult to do. Might even be able to help 2 folks, as some would benefit from just receiving a pair of tires.

If you live in a metro area it shouldn't take long to accomplish.

I asked for 3 peak rated tires, the dealer did not want to deal with replacements and reduced the sales price by $800 instead. Mind you, I did agree to a markup, but after spending quite a bit of time at all the local dealers, and having a specific requirement of a MT, and being patient while it was in build phase I felt the dealer I worked with ended up being the best option in my region. Some were almost egregiously ridiculous. My dealer gave me over KBB range for my Silverado trade in, so that was a big factor in the negotiation. I have read on this site about a lot of good dealer experiences agreeing to msrp or even better, which is great. Those dealers need to be called out and commended. OK, Im getting off topic here.

Honestly I was in the same headspace, and being in the snowless south, I held out way too long. I gave it an honest try, I didn't want to waste money like that. After one too many slips in light drizzle however and I had enough. The stock Firestones...suck ass goblins.

With 10,000 on the odometer I sold my takeoffs for next to nothing and bought AT3s. Best and most immediate improvement I could have made to the truck. Slightly noisier in the dry, but better in the light rain and much better off pavement. And also the looks. Let's be honest. :anonymous:

If that happened 75.42% of folks seeking info on new tires would just say 'aggressive looks are criteria one'.

Resistance is futile. It also doesn't make any sense, upgraded tires are better than stock in every conceivable metric.

Give in to the dark side, get those tires! I’m a big fan of toyo open country at3 or falken wildpeaks. If your wanting to give back to the community post the tires for cheap on marketplace, lots of people would be happy to get a good deal on a set of takeoffs

Visually, I really want more aggressive looking tires. I was hoping that the stock tires on my SR would perform really poorly in the snow and that would allow me to justify getting better tires. But to my surprise the Hankook Dynapro HT's handled like a champ in the snow! There was even a TRD OR behind me with AT's (not sure what kind but the truck looked stock so I am assuming they were Wranglers) that was sliding all over and my truck continued to stay planted. I am disappointingly very happy with how they handle in rain and snow. I don't expect to drive through snow except for a couple times a year but even in the deeper snow and the packed snow and ice they did well. All that said I would still get different tires if money wasn't a consideration. I say you should go for it and get some different tires that you like and I will just live vicariously through you and others with good tires.
