Swapped from 600lb Coil to 650lb with No Preload

    Last night my neighbor and I were able to rebuild/revalve my passenger side with the intention to finish the driver side on Saturday morning. I went up a little on my coil, 600lb to 650lb, to compensate for the added weight of my armor, but took off all preload with the thought of adding it Saturday as needed. To my surprise, the truck is level within 1/8" (each side is right at 40" to the bottom of the fender) and rides great. My question for anyone with experience on this: how much are these new spring going to settle? I don't want much more lift if any at all, but I definitely dont want to drop 1/2" to avoid tearing up my fender liners anymore. TIA for any help.

    Anyone out there that can give me an idea of how much these coils will settle after some time? I know I am not the first to pioneer such a change haha

    I know of no reason that coil springs would decrease in spring rate or length by any appreciable amount over a short time with normal treatment. Nor have I heard any compelling evidence of this behavior.

    Springs get fatigued--On a more extreme case, when swapping my old OEM springs on my 200k mile 4Runner with new OEM springs, it brought it up almost an inch. I have always understood that leaf springs and coils settle after a little while, so just trying to get an idea of home much I should preload to compensate for the settling that will be going on in the next couple months.

    I was assuming that to be the case... I will probably go with a 1/4" preload passenger and 1/2" preload on driver side to compensate for the lean.

    I have kings as well and have taken many measurements and never observed any “settling”. What I have noticed is that after jacking the front of the truck up and then placing it back on the ground is that the hub to fender can be 1/2” higher than before, but goes back to normal after driving around the block. I don’t have an explanation other than bushings binding up.

    FYI: I heard a rumor that King sources their coil springs from Eibach and don’t doubt it since king is focused on shocks and Eibach is a large supplier of coil springs.
