Yeah that’s what sand paper and glaze putty is for. It was a trick question I worked collision repair for 6 years before going back to the stealership. 1000 is a total rip off.

I don’t think a Tacoma bumper takes 7-8 hours of prep work and paint to justify 1000 bucks.

    I agree, that's a 6-7 hundred dollar job on a new truck.

and there is the reason, for so many bumper and hood paint failures. poor prep, and using a filler "putty" for something it was not designed to do... especially on something in a high frontal impact area. why do you think so many good shops will either strip hoods and bumpers to eliminate all substrate, and imperfections, or replace the part and start with a new fresh, clean slate? speed is a matter of money, how fast do you want to go? pay me now, or pay me later... both come to mind. I think another thing people are missing is that you aren’t paying for the exact amount of time it’s going to take. You’re paying for the years of experience it took to be able to do a quality job efficiently.

Indeed, plus the cost of the shop and just being open. My father-in-law had a shop for many years in Denver. It was tough, dirty work, hard to hire for, and the city was always raising taxes. Insurance work paid the bills, however he'd also do some restorations for friends or his own projects, which he was an artist in a way.

On occasion he'd repaint my wife's car ;), which one time was a white front bumper and he would have charged $300, which was 20 years ago. It was a lot of work to do it right.

Bro.. if you do it yourself, what ever color you find that matches. (Duplicolor super white, was a little off) clear it with something like this.

Spray Max 2K High Gloss Finish Clear Coat Spray Paint | Car Parts and Repair Refinishing Clear Coat for Permanent Sealing of Coated Surfaces | 3680061 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043B7UQY

I did my grille surround 3 times, 2 times it yellowed, I got the clear now over it and 2 years later still looks new.

    or go to Macco..

i wonder how truck bed liner would work on the SR's black plastic bumper cover. mine already has tons of scratches from driving by bushes and stuff.

Now god forbid they are the ones quoting services in their profession,,, they deserve top dollar.

if you really think anything costs too much, shop it, make it, or do it yourself,,,, that's your options, it's a free market.

This is probably about $200 high at most big collision shops, but it pays to shop around. I've had used tri-coat bumpers with slight damage painted for $500 by a local small shop that does an amazing job.

Unfortunately, unless you have a relationship with a shop you won't be paying that.

partially false. Pre scan not required since no collision but technically post scan is if you are d&r battery for fog lights (still overkill imo, prob wouldn’t even do that on my own truck). Prep unprimed bumped is 150,000% necessary all Toyota bumpers are unprimed plastic if you just scuff and paint it will flake in maximum 3 months you just wiped your ass with $1k. Other than scans I’d say estimate is very credible. Oh and headlights do not need to come out

also auto body work is textbook for “you get what you pay for”

I missed the part it was an SR with non painted bumpers. and yes, all new parts from toyota are unprimed plastic. I assumed (you know what that gets you), he was changing the color of an original already painted stock fascia. everything else is spot on. Ski

Then you should know that 1000 dollars to spray a bumper cover is a rip off. Tom
