Hey all! Financing was approved and the ship is at the maternity dock. Delivery should be in a week or two.

My first Toyota was a 1985 SR5 Xtra-Cab RWD, 4-cyl MT. (Maroon/red w/ SR5 stripes). Only had it for a year or so, but it was a good little truck.

Second truck was a 1989 SR5 Xtra-Cab 4X4, 4-cyl MT. (Dark grey metallic w/ SR5 stripes) Great truck - did some river driving in Panama, survived a rear attack from a Lincoln Continental, and brushed off various telephone poles and mail boxes. Had it 10 years and 190,000 miles and the only major surgery was changing the timing chain at around 125K.

The new truck is a 2023 SR Access Cab 4X4, 6-cyl AT. (Magnetic grey) Expectations are high, so we’ll wait to see how well Toyota has maintained it’s legacy. I’m planning on 20 years and 400,000 miles, so my first ‘mod’ is rust-proofing! (PA uses so much salt in the winter that your blood pressure actually goes up when you’re driving.)

No pics of the ‘85, but I’ll post before-and-after pics with ‘89.

Quincy! I used to live in St Charles, MO. I took flying lessons at 3SQ (now closed) and we were always using the Quincy beacon for nav. Small world.

Picked up the truck today! Thought I would be singing “Back in saddle again” but it’s more like “Comfortably Numb”. It rides smooth, but engine response is somewhat subdued. Pro: I like the adaptive cruise control, back-up camera and having a lockable bed with tonneau cover. Con: seats, infotainment display and tiny A/C display instead of intuitive knobs. Oh - and those -tiny- radio knobs/buttons!

The acceleration is lacking in the 4 cylinder models but their reliability way outweighs that issue. I have had a nearly identical truck to yours since 2016/65K miles/not a single problem. If you don’t tow, you don’t need the V6. After you get used to the transmission, you will find it goes up hills just fine and keeps up with traffic. 4X4 is excellent when needed. My commute is 80 miles round trip twice/week with average 65 mph/24mpg. Should be no problem lasting many years and reaching 400K. Congratulations on nice truck!
