This is completely dealer dependent and applies to all makes.
The dealership I found didn't have hidden fees or "market adjustment".
You just need to shop around until you find the right dealership.

I realize your frustration,. I always do the new car thing as a game and shop around. It has been a couple years since I bought my Tacoma, but I went through 5 dealers before I found the right deal. Just bought a new Hyundai Hybrid a few weeks ago, and all but one dealer had an insane markup. Several it was a flat out market adjustment, a couple did what you mentioned such as floor mats and locking lug nits for a 1000 bucks. I just worked through email and ended up with what I wanted. I was prepared to pay MSRP, but not over, as prices are what they are right now, especially for a hybrid.

this isn't a "toyota" thing...it's specific to the place you went to. I'd just go somewhere else. I had a good experience where I got mine...I mean my truck was used and 3 years old when I bought it so not brand new but still, salesman didn't seem to rip me off, truck was decently priced (dealerships do tend to be 2k over blue book no matter which one you use) to my surprise, and I still have it and don't feel like my payments or contract was bad. had good experience with longview and shreveport toyota dealerships...it's the used car places that REALLY get you. but even that is only valid to that one place...they're ALL different

When I just bought my Tacoma Limited 4x4 Long Bed. I had a dealer in Maryland who sells all their vehicles at MSRP. But I could not find what I wanted at that dealership. I wanted a Double Cab Long Bed with at least the Tech Package. I stopped by another dealer in Md just on a whim. I found this limited sitting on the showroom floor.

it had been at the dealership for 1 day. The sales guy said that they have $1000 dollar markup on it. Take it or leave it basically. I bought it because it was what I wanted. I ended up getting $750 off for Military and I got $1000 dollar off the taxes for trading in my paid for car.

But as I was there at the dealership another guy wanted to buy it. The Tacoma’s or Toyota’s in general are in high demand.

I agree with most on here the dealerships are in business to make money. It is like selling your house you could have multiple bids on it. You are gonna take the highest bid. People get so upset when they don’t get their way.

What makes America great is our free market economy and the freedom to make your own financial decisions. No one is holding a gun to your head when you sign the paperwork.

Send an email to every dealer in a 100mile radius. Almost all have an internet sales section.

Tell them exactly what you want, that you are a cash and carry deal (do your own financing if needed, sell your own vehicle if needed) and ask for their best no haggle OTD price.

When I did this I only got about 6 responses out of 25. 3 of those were 'call me, lets talk'. The other 3 did as I asked. 2 were competitively priced, so I finished up by speaking directly with both of them, and bought at a fair deal.

And that was in 2003. So 20 years later, the game is the same, but with bigger stakes.

Haha ... pinstripes charged for without adding them.

My local dealer has "additional accessories" listed on all Tacoma's for $1274, without saying what they are?!

Here’s another one from a Virginia dealer. One of the worst I’ve seen around here.

Wow that is crazy. Wonder if they will get their asking price.

Safford Brown Toyota of Glenn Burnie MD is 100% at MSRP no markups.

The Costco price is supposed to be as given. No negotiating / no pressure. If it isn't, let Costco know. That's not how the program is supposed to work.

I can tell you, like others, your dealership pricing will vary wildly.
The only way you can influnce this is voting with your $$$.

Tacoma's are at a premium, expecially the higher end loaded models.
In Monterey Bay area we have 3 Toyota dealerships. All 3 are vastly different.
2 of the 3 delaerships have NO cars thus when they get em' they mark them up wildly.
15K over MSRP in some cases.

We drove to San Diego to get our "gently used" TRD Pro but the dealership experience was WORSE.

It's not Toyota it's the dealership. The dealerships who own franchises of various brands seem to add more mark ups on their Toyota's.

Many of the advertised market adjustments on domestic trucks are gone, except for Raptors and DRW supperduties.

Shelby Mustang GT 500, and Corolla GR track editions will probably always sell at a mark up.

I just checked my dealer and they have a 4Runner Limited on the lot for about $54k. I paid under $42k for my 2018 Limited. Still, if you can get a good price, 4Runners are awesome and will last a long time.

I bought for MSRP and those dealerships are.out there. Shop around. Travel if you must. Look at SLC and Denver.
The dealerships know what they are doing, sadly, and are exploiting their customers. This is nothing but greed and I wish the manufacturers would put an end to it.
Capitalism, supply and demand, yeah yeah. Then the dealership wonders why the customer doesn't come back.for service? Where is the dealer/customer relationship? Shop local and support local business blah blah after they fleece you on the sales lot.

I think it’s complete BS some of the adds on and charges. If I ever buy a new truck it will be stock at msrp. I’ll probably have to order it but I’m in no rush.
The dealership here sells at MSRP no market adjustment

Don’t worry yall, with interest rates being triple, almost quadruple what they were last year we’re going to see all those same house and vehicles for fire sales.
