Do the Toyota Dealers really intend to drive off customers?

    I wish you well then.
I still cant get the image out of my head when I watched two salesmen high 5 each other when the one sold a piece of crap car to an unsuspecting customer. I heard him bragging, yeah I really put it to the guy. I later asked the second salesman how can you do this to people. He said its nothing personal. Its the art of the sale. I spent 4 years working for various dealerships and it wasn't any different at any of them. Salesmen are like a pack of gypsys moving from one dealership to the next.
Customer service is nothing but a marketing tool so they can stick their hands inside your wallet. I'm just saying be smart, know what you want and what your willing to pay. Research the vehicle first before you ever step on a lot and be prepared to walk away quickly.

Dealers know most people can't wait, "ohh shiny!". They assume they have you bent over, be ready to walk away.
They also know this won't last and the pendulum will eventually swing back.

Where did I ever say there weren't shady sales associates and dealerships? They exist, and are quite plentiful, however, there are also many upstanding dealerships who negotiate in good faith and while they might not make the most on any given vehicle, they know they cut you a fair deal and the odds are you'll return for your next vehicle. The Tacoma I bought back in October fit that model, it was the third vehicle I'd purchased from that dealership in the last 14 years.

Bristol Toyota in Tennessee sold me my brand new 22 Off Road ...for msrp
Total taxes and all OTD was $41,765

Called about 20 dealerships in Tennessee,Kentucky,Georgia,North Carolina all but 2 were asking $4,000 over msrp

Customers come from all over the East Coast to buy from Bristol Toyota...saw 2 couples from Ohio while I was finishing up paper work.

Yep, I was just there last weekend looking at some trucks. Told the salesman I wasn't paying that crap. He said everyone is that wants a truck and every dealership is charging it. I drove home with my new truck about 5 days later from a different dealer, no market adjustment.

In the case of most Tacomas this advice isn’t relative to todays market. I will say it’s starting to get better. But it’s not what it was 3 years ago. Supply is still low (again, in comparison). 3 years ago I’d say this is spot on advice

    Stock. For now.
In the current market, I searched for what I wanted and traveled 5 hours to buy the truck. No hidden fees and below msrp. Did the same for my wifes ‘22 4runner, except we traveled 8-1/2 hours. Spend your money where it suits you best.

Just about every OEM as of late is doing a good job turning away customers with these exorbitant ADMs.

The 1st stealership I went too was Priority Toyota Hampton.

2301 West Mercury Boulevard, Hampton VA 23666

Note: This dealership mark-ups are crazy, between 5-7K... They definitely lost a sale.

They had enough nerve to tell me everyone is marking up there vehicles. I informed them such was only theft and I left and went across the water.
    First Team Toyota
    3400 Western Branch Blvd
    Chesapeake, VA 23321

Will be paying MSRP for a 2023 Tacoma TRD Off-road with the premium package in Barcelona Red Metallic.

In 2019 I asked several dealers in the Souther Virginia and northern North Carolina area and got pretty much the same offers. I ended up driving to Laurel, Maryland to buy my current truck. I checked their webpage today because this thread spiked my curiosity and this is what they are advertising as an example. I saved about $3,500 there from the VA/NC offers. It looks like they are still offering pretty straight forward numbers.

"There's no such thing as a no sale call. Either you sell the guy some stock or they sell you on a reason why they can't buy stock!"

Sums up the general sales thought at times. Never worked in this type of sales myself but known plenty who have.

Yes, look around if dealer A isn't doing a good job for you! I tried 3 local dealers and 2 were snotty, one the guy was nice enough but told me the Tacoma I want is a unicorn and good luck finding one. Then he tried to sell me a white AT granny cab he had incoming. People were getting new Tacoma's from somewhere, so instead of getting angry I dug in and figured out how they were doing it. Coming here signing up and reading a lot was a great place to learn.

I found a dealer across the state that had 28 Taco's on their website instead of the 3 or 4 most dealers had and called them. Patty explained the allocation process to me and that they sold their vehicles @ MSRP. I put down a 1k deposit with them. 5 months later they delivered my brand new Tacoma to my house, the exact truck and even the color I wanted.

So pick a high volume Toyota dealer, read their online reviews and get the ball rolling if they make a good impression on you when you talk to them. Good Luck!

Very possible. 2019 was our last time at a dealer and it was a used exclusively. Mine came from a Toyota dealer in 2012. Both were positive experiences.

Incorrect, not one OEM in the world is hitting customers with ADMs; it is the dealership which is adding those on.

If you bought a CX5 instead of the RAV they are phenomenal vehicles.

My 2017 (6+ years old now) currently has 17k miles. :notsure:

It's marked up, because it's a rare color. If you want one get one while they're still available. I leased a black 2020 TRD offroad premium 4Runner in February 2020 before the world fell apart. Sticker was a little under 44k and I got it for 40k otd. I sold it to a local dealer last April and made my money back. Now I wish I would have just bought the damn thing out right and kept it. Easy come easy go. :annoyed:

It’s funny how most think they are getting a great deal at MSRP. Along with pretty good profit selling at MSRP they also get their holdback of 2 % of the MSRP

Maybe an individual who is buying at MSRP is content with the purchase due to not paying a massive mark-up.
