I bought this 2006 DCLB SR5 from my buddy's Dad. It had (almost) been totaled out and was close to (or just over) 300K. He's an engineer and had everything done at the dealer over the years. I put the VIN into Toyota's website and pages and pages of maintenance (even regular oil changes) popped up.

The steel wheels that came with it had some surface rusting. That and the damage to the rear of the truck made me think, "Ok, I just got a really good deal on a vehicle"...but I was not ecstatic about it. My previous truck had become ungovernable, so to speak, so I saw it as just a replacement vehicle. I work from home, so I'm thinking that's another reason we hadn't 'bonded' much over the years.

I recently tried to get it inspected for the state registration, and I was surprised to hear that my BFGs (which I had switched off of my old pickup to the Taco) were so old that they were cracking. I had never had tires long enough for them to get old, so that was a surprise!

That started the ball (or tire, hehe) really rolling. I finally found some alloys online from a 2019 4Runner that I researched well enough to find out that they would work. Paid $120 for all 4! Then I needed new tires for them. Wound up picking up Cooper Discoverer ATP IIs. Now, I've replaced the following, some with help from lurking here. Thanks to all who have posted useful stuff about 2nd Gen:

Center Console Latch Assembly (really a life-changing fix)
Floor Mats, now TRD branded front & rear, thanks to my wife
Random Extras: K&N cabin air filter, Silicone license plate "frames", Oval-logo trailer hitch cap & valve stem covers, RockyMounts bike "racks/mounts" that fit into the rail system in the bed

The next couple things I am about to install:
    OEM Style Replacement Headlight Assemblies
K&N FIPK Performance Air Intake System

The only thing slowing me down is that just today I saw a grill(e?) I really liked on another person's 2nd gen online and I think replacing that when I do the headlight assemblies makes sense. I am having trouble finding just the one I see in the picture. Might one of you know where I can buy it? Thanks for taking the time to read all of this!

Thank you!! I like your black grille, too. Where did you find it?

The stock grille was black with chrome surround and I bought a black with color matching color surround grille from Royal South Toyota.
