You sound aware of the elaborate technology involved in cell phones. Perhaps the phone could just shut off while at highway speed?

Lol. I’m not advocating for phone companies to be held responsible.

    You literally said
"Phone companies themselves should begin the process of being responsible for distracted driving"

i always take the approach of people being responsible for their own actions.

for the record a distracted driver barreled into the rear of my car in 2017 and totaled it. She had 2 preschool kids in the back of her SUV. I have no faith in people learning from their mistakes but i dont think we should all suffer because of the lowest IQ of us cant understand what they do has repercussions.

I would of gotten one of those powerhouse tv attorneys to get the settlement I needed for a new truck or new to me truck.

    Good luck OP

That is unfortunate, but winter in the snow belt is prime time for the body shops. If you are that close, they should total it because the body shop will find more damage. It isn't uncommon for a body shop when they are that busy to tack on a few more dollars so it gets totaled. What people don't realize is that there is still financial incentive to deal with a totaled vehicle. The insurance company still pays them for dealing with it. Obviously not as much as they would get to fix it, but there is a misconception that body shops want to fix everything.

Your situation is difficult because you have the truck at home. The body shops can turn you away much easier.

Did you get a rental car from their insurance company? That used to be a way that motivated them to move faster because they were paying, but these days even that doesn't seem to work. I was at Enterprise the other day where a guy was making his monthly check in with the car he had for 3 months because they couldn't get parts for his car.

My advice is to stand firm, but reasonable and be patient. It sounds like you are on the right track.

And? The passengers don't get to use their phones whilst travelling? If this was a thing, there would be a yes or no button confirming if you were driving or not. Do you fathom someone who texts, and drives would be honest and choose yes?

Same with the moron who rear ended my wife's Rav4 last week, hard enough to stamp his license plate into her bumper. I'd like to sit him down and ask how he feels knowing my wife is a spinal surgery survivor in particular.

In your example, anyone who does that with kids in the vehicle should be punished harshly moreso than a comparable situation without kids. Height of stupidity.

You are right. I did say that. However I am not advocating for them to be held responsible. I would like people to do that themselves, yet it doesn’t seem like this will happen. There are certain setting in your phone that limits the usage. I don’t think you can use the nav keyboard in your truck while driving for the same reasons. At least on google maps with CarPlay it won’t let you. I see way too many people on their phones every time I drive.

Update!! My payout was 3k more than what I paid for it 2 years ago (plus taxes). It was a 4cyl 4x4 AC SR with the utility package. I'm now in the process of purchasing a 23 SR5 4X4 4cyl with a blackout package. It was the only SR available in a 250 mile radius that wasn't already flagged with "sale pending" and I have to go to Iowa to get it in a few days.

I'm still a little heartbroken about my taco, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited about getting a new taco.:bananadance: :kona:

WOW you are lucky! Getting a 2023 this fast after losing your old one is amazing. The trip to Iowa may not be that bad, its just across the border.
