Is it worth chip-tuning a gen 1 for better efficiency?

He's talking about the 1st gens

There's no chip/tune for first gen ECUs, it's all snake oil.

What engine do you have? If it's a 5VZ FE there is no tune.
No one has ever been able to crack into the ECU.

Nice! It seems like a tune on the 3rd gens is almost mandatory.
But this is for a 1st gen.

1st Gen Tacomas, with the exception of some 2003-2004 trucks, are not possible to be tuned whatsoever. They are locked ECU's, and any chip or add on implement you see for sale is purely snake oil. I've seen some of these "chip" addons torn apart, and it's literally a plastic case with weights to make it seem heavier, and 1 single resistor on the fuel trim circuit to cause the truck to run more rich. It does nothing otherwise.

Unless you go for a multi thousand dollar setup with a standalone computer and a custom tune with something like a Haltech or AEM unit, there is nothing you can do computer wise.

You buy a bunch of shit to install in the bed and use it once a year. Weighs down your rear axle so you get more traction :luvya:

I'm interested in what a 'regert' is. :D

There are a lot of tuners around the country doing tunes for the 3rd gen crowd. I 'think' Overland is the name of one of the businesses.

Seems legit, not even peddle commander works for the 1st Gen unfortunately

What about 2nd gen? More for fuel economy than power, which it has plenty of, for me.
