Just now able to get on and goof around. lol. Working from home is so hard. hahaha. Anyway, good morning all you old, but immature taco loving knuckles! Clear and brisk day here in Virginia. Ever since I dealt with our power outage a year ago for 5 days (I95 winter issue with cars stuck for days), I now have a kubota diesel generator for my place. I'll at least be able to house anyone who needs shelter. They have to bring their own reeses and chocolate though. lol

 

So, I got four new additions to the homestead last Thursday. Yesterday was was their first day to explore outside of their new coop. I doubled the height of the fence, as two of them did fly over it within a few minutes of letting them out of the coop. But I’m terrible at naming animals; what do y’all think I should call them? Thing 1,2,3,&4 is my first inclination, but I don’t think it’s a very good choice.

Are they for eggs or eating? I would personally love to have them for eating bugs, so many japanese beetles! Anyway, if for eating....I say....fingers, sammy, fried....you know. chicken fingers, chicken sammy, fried chicken.

I also intend for them to free range on the property once the dog has adjusted to their presence. I hope they will help with the tic problems around here. I'm going to get 5 more this summer. That should be enough to cover the property.

 

Probably my dinner plate, but we'll see how attached I've gotten to them by then. Though, they must survive all the predators around here for something like 5 years before I'll have to make that choice.

G'day mates! Lunch is just about over, just doing a quick check-in. Weeza definitely finds interesting ways to injure herself. I hope that it stops bleeding soon.

 

I have friends who were on the mission field and they raised Guinea Hens because they were resilient. They avoided predators better than most chickens.

 

The next batch will be an assortment of Easter Eggers, Marans, Starlight Green Eggers, and a rooster of an undecided breed.
