I have been interested in the tail light guards I have been seeing made by ProZ and other companies on the second gens. I think they look great, but haven't been able to find any for the 3rd generation since I began looking in February. If anyone has any promising links to shops that might, I would really appreciate it!

So....I spent the summer off-roading, bouncing over hill and dale, driving past the end of every deactivated logging road I could find, up and down every rockfall that I could reach....and my Taco got dusty.

I spent the fall hunting and doing pretty much the same thing, driving-wise...my Taco got muddy.

Today I drove my lovely wife to The Mall because Winner's still has it's Pre-Christmas-Boxing-Month-Customer-Appreciation-Value-Village-Wannabe sale on. I parked in a quiet(er) area of the lot, backing into a spot against the trees, thinking that I could escape back to the Taco for a nap after I walked her to her shopping Nirvana and she detected my near fatal boredom kicking in.

I came back, looked, and says to myself: "Self, what is all those li'l red bits-n-pieces near the back of The Grey Ghost?"

    Sigh.

It appears that one of the local SRs took it upon him(or her)self to vent their outrage at the unfairness and inequality of the world, their inherent ineffectiveness and inconsequence within that world, all at the expense of a Tacoma tail light.

    Mine.

    Sigh.

Given that a motion-activated shotgun aimed out the rear window is not a real practical option. I checked, it is STILL an Indictable Offence in Canada; alas, there is a pretty broad definition of vigilantism.

    Damn.

As I stood in the cold drizzle, sipped my Double-Double and pondered my options – both practical, and those of pure fantasy and satisfying violence - I became certain that some metal taillight guards would be the perfect solution. And they would look cool. And there is a feeble hope that if that self-same SR wacked the taillight again, he or she may cause some self harm, which could only involve some much needed self-reflection, and no doubt lead to a change of heart and direction for this individual....or, it could push him/her over the edge into doing some real damage, which at least would be covered by ICBC.

Sadly, as a previous post indicated, there is a complete an utter dearth, a veritable vacuum, of info and pictures of 3rd Gen tail light protectors

I'll add the caveat that a failure to seek out what I seek may in fact be due a lack of competence in managing that little magnifying button, so it would be with equal parts appropriate humility and appreciation that I would welcome a “here is the link, Dummy”

Meanwhile, with the arrival of evening, I have moved from Timmy's to Cariboo ale....I am sure this will serve to enhance the fantasy part of my pondering.

So....has anyone found anything along the lines of a metal cage for 3rd Gen tail lights?

BTW, the good news is that my wife saved $3.00 on a mixing bowl set she wanted

    Happy New Year, everyone!

About 3 yrs later, still no great taillight protectors. I just smashed my second passenger side taillight, and I am blaming myself and my too reliance on the backup camera. The only one I can find is the Tyger, and it has the problem of being too wraparound, and too close to the lens, meaning that a bump to the taillight might transmit to the lens. Let me know if there are other options. Surprised that no vendor has stepped forward with a great protector. Great opportunity, unless it is hard to produce.

No way to protect the taillight with a clean pretty solution. You can do it ugly like Mad Max but any other solution is just for looks.

yeah, without some type of frame mounted cage, the taillight will still pop, and if it was rigid enough, just push damage to the quarter panel $$$.
I never got these things, no way I would want to reduce my taillight visibility.
