@White lightning boosted 's guy had one of these and it didn't work. The new valve springs were too stiff, but I think he can confirm?

 

There's a brand that @Torspd has that might work.

 

Mine would likely only be best used with the head off. It is similar to the Lisle brand.

I have this and used it a bunch on vintage moto engines, but that doesn’t even fit the Tacoma head. On Jesse’s truck we ground it down to make it fit. After that it works pretty well for the stock springs but you can forget about getting the super stiff Kelford springs in with it. Especially forget about it if you’re doing it in the engine bay without pulling the heads. We ended up getting this:

Still a two man job, so if doing it solo, I’d look for something with a screw type instead of the lever handle. And get a topside creeper. Your back will thank you.

if I’m getting the 2UZ cams in this GB, I’m pulling the heads that’s for damn sure.

 

I like the lever style spring compressors better. Fortunately I have a spare engine I'm building so don't have to do it in the truck.

When you install the 234A cam is a tune required? I plan on the HP tuners anyway but was curious if it was mandatory from the get-go.

Thinking this will suit my needs.

 

Will it start and run without one? Yep! Will it be ideal/good to rip? Not in my opinion. But previous tuning could make it possible drop in and go.

 

New 2.8 tune rips well mate.

Maybe you a glutton for punishment like me. I don’t even have a regular creeper. Just the ole endless supply of Amazon cardboard. You could always deflate front tires or just take em off…. But for cams, AND doing them on the motor in the engine bay, just get the creeper

But even if they can be included in the GB, it’s still contingent on 1) verification of fit for vvti gears on the intake cams, and 2) a viable ECM tuning solution, which I haven’t found yet. Stand-alone is not an option.
