Window sticker claims mpg on my 2021 TRD 4x4 Off Road as 22 hwy and 18 city. Best I've been able to get is 19.3 hwy. Dealer says everything is as is should be and that's close enough, but I say it oughta get 22 hwy. It's my opinion that it's either false advertising or defective. I told the dealer I was gonna raise a stink here and they said go ahead.

Welcome to TW. I can tell you are going to be a member who contributes a lot to the community. Have you considered a Smart Car? You could mod it a bit to suit your OR needs. A Honda Ridgeline seems more your speed as well. Options to consider.

I average 20mpg city in the summer and 16mpg in the winter (Idling it often and using 4WD). I drive the truck relatively hard and have a topper, 2" lift and no front air dam. I could easily get better economy if I wish. There are going to be many factors into your fuel economy. You also have to take fuel economy ratings with a grain of salt as they are often studied in perfect conditions. May I also suggest trading it in for a RAV4 Prime or a Prius?... :anonymous:

I get 19.4 city driving per display ~ 19.6 per calculator. Low 20's on hwy, but my hwy speed limits range from 70-80 mph, probably 22-23

    What’s your tire pressure?

After break-in, going from 31 psi to 38 psi has made a significant difference. I may bump it up some more to see if more can be had. I haven’t noticed any ride harshness.

This is also a really good point. Dealership likes to set tires at 40psi. I was not happy with the ride quality when I picked up my 2020 brand new. I checked the tire pressure and dropped it to the 29psi the door card stated. This will make a difference.

Is this your first new vehicle?
I’ve never had a vehicle to get window sticker MPGs or known anyone that did either.
After taking in to the dealer for this reason, don’t expect a lot of help on an actual issues.

    3 mph is negligible.
There’s SO many factors that affect fuel economy. Fill your tires up til they are about to explode, only drive with half a tank of gas or less, and never go over 55 on flat highways. Then check your mpg and report back

EPA mileage tests may be useful when comparing vehicles to each other, but your real world experience will depend on how closely you drive your vehicle to the "test" conditions, and the fuel you put in your vehicle. The test conditions may not reflect real world driving habits, and consequently, real world observations are lower than EPA tests.

Is your average highway speed higher than 48 mph? Do you have a lead foot, or do you feather the gas pedal?
Are you using E10 (10% ethanol blend) instead of E0 (pure gasoline)?

In all seriousness... are you running a roof rack, or even light bar? Aftermarket tires? Underinflated tires? Have a peg leg? There are tons of things that affect fuel economy.

Also if you really wanted to file a complaint you would go to toyota corporate, not the dealer. But good luck proving your case.

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
You should read the window sticker about the epa ESTIMATED mileage.

drive like an old man and you’ll get that mileage, or better.

drive like I do and you’ll be happy that you are getting 15.5.

it’s a truck (kind of…) and isn’t expected to get decent mileage.

my 2022 Ram 3500 long bed crew cab HO Cummins got better mileage than this Tacoma…

Another consideration is winter blend fuel. Go-go juice has more go in the warmer months.
