It's bone-stock, unloaded, tonneau cover, and I run speed limits on interstates. I have degrees in Automotive Technology and Mechanical Engineering, plus Professional Engineer licenses in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. For my most-recent new car purchases (2018 VW Tiguan, 2014 BMW M235i, 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid, and 2007 Honda CRV), I have been able to exceed the sticker highway MPG by 2-3 MPG consistently. Thus, I claim that I have an educated throttle foot (Baierl Toyota retired shop foreman John Ball agreed). When people ask me about the Tacoma, the first thing I tell them is “the MPG sucks, is disappointing, and falls short on expectations”.

It's a truck. If you're going to fret about a few miles less/gallon than the sticker, you should have bought a Prius. My 2016 averages 14-16 mpg, although I'm sure it's due mainly to the lift and 33" tires :D

Wow, what an incredibly pretentious statement.
My man. Just stop. Please. Stop. You're making a fool of yourself.

Milage can improve once the truck has some miles on it. Winter fuel impacts mpg’s. These are not very aero dynamic vehicles. They are like bricks traveling down the road. However, there have been some members here who seem to get some good results Hypermiling. I would wait until Summer and do a search on here on what others have done to get better MPG’s.

And...........your education doesn't mean shit when you're driving. I get about 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. Stock 2019 Sport with a tonneau cover. Sounds to me like you are driving the Tacoma like its a Honda Civic and you are stunned that you don't get good MPGs.

    This!
I have full armor underneath plus just added a Alu-Cab Contour canopy and accessories and with ginger throttle and cruising at as low a RPM as possible I am getting 18 mpg combined. Totally happy with that! OH! and tires are around 29psi.

Serious question: what do you hope to achieve with this thread? Do you feel like you need to be heard? Did the dealer not give you the attention you think you deserve so you decided to come to a forum of Tacoma enthusiasts with no affiliation to your dealer or Toyota to bitch? Also: thanks for sharing your CV on here - I'm putting it in my signature.

I knew my truck wouldn’t get 21 but I didn’t buy it for mpg. However in the past my Silverado with the 3.0 diesel averaged over 27.5 in 8k miles so I know certain vehicles can exceed their epa estimates (rated 22/26).

Bro you're trying to push a brick down the interstate.
Also this topic has been covered many times since 2016, how did you not find this out beforehand when researching the platform?
