The 2.7 in my 1999 Tacoma PreRunner is hurt and she’s knocking. A buddy passed me an idea of a Chevy 350 Small block swap. Yes it is old tech but has anyone done it or have any advice

350 swaps were pretty popular on the 80's Toyota Pickups. That being said, putting a 350 in a Tacoma would be taking a step back in efficiency, power, and value. LS swaps are infinitely more popular for a reason.

    Welcome to the forum!!

What is your over all end Game?

Because I can is a valid reason.

Engine swap Buy a complete Donor vehicle.

Go with the proven 3.4 swap Keep it in the family.

Those Anti Rejection Drugs get expensive.

Do you need to pass emissions tests where you live?

Going the Chevy route put your Tacoma Cab on a Chevy rolling Chassis unless you have very good self control you will be replacing drive train parts as the die a violent death.

    Thatwas avery expensive lesson.

10/10 would recommend against a 3.4 swap having done one. The 2.7 is a sweetheart that easily accepts a turbo with minimal effort. Replace and keep motoring!

Humm you need to think about this .....a lot, i did a 1uzfe swap into a 99 s/c prerunner its a lot of work and big learning curve, donor vehicle recommended in any format you chose. The 3.4 makes sense but then you gotta move engine mounts, change out instrument panel, ecu plus wiring. An iron small block is heavy, the 1uzfe weighs less than the 3.4 v6 and only 30lbs more than the 3rz, just food for thought.
