Hey tacomaworld! Just bought a 2015 trd sport 4x4 this past week. Its got 113,000 miles on it and I absolutely love it. However I definitely have some concerns about daily driving it. Its sitting on some nice 33 inch MT's, and im not concerned with gas mileage, I know it will suck.

What i am concerned about is the longevity of the truck. My commute to work is 30 miles each way, and after doing the math on how many miles the truck could have in 4 years hurts my heart pretty good. The plan with this truck is to overland and explore, don't plan on doing much hard rock crawling.

Should I look at getting a cheap daily driver down the line? Or can the Toyota reliability get me 8 years out of this thing?

If you do regular maintenance, you can expect to see 250k-300k before things “might” happen.
You got a long ways to go. I wouldn’t worry about it at all.

Keep the fluids changed and it should last a really long time.
Is your truck an Automatic Transmission?

Vehicles that last forever are usually maintained like they need to last forever. You bought it to drive it and enjoy it so don't hold back.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
I have an '18 Sport MT. I daily it 90 miles round trip. Currently has 110k miles. We did all the fluids at 100k and everything looked like it could go another 100k. Keep up with the PM schedule and go have fun.

I would change the fluid every 60k.
Drop the pan, clean the magnets, and replace the filter once every 100k.
Most guys don’t, but you say you are looking for longevity. So, that’s my recommendation.

2nd gen Tacomas in fleet service use are getting 400k-450k miles out of the original drivetrains with regular scheduled no frills basic maintenance. It's also one reason why their resale value is crazy high - because they're worth it.

260 working days @ 60 mi day = 15.6K a year, figure another 5K for personal use. Yes 20K a year is well above average, but if you aim at 350K life - 113K on it now = 237K remaining (at least, with decent maintenance) that's 12 years right there. And who knows, maybe you'll make 400 to 450K or more.

(Of course, this kind of optimistic projection assumes the truck has been taken care of half-decently up to this point, and not abused...)

Do all the fluids according to recommended service intervals or slightly more often -- especially oil & coolant -- don't drive it like a rental, & keep your fingers crossed.

Also be sure to check / change the PCV valve now & then. Recommended interval on a Taco V6 4.0L is every 30-50K miles. A $10-15 part on the engine itself (not a subsystem) that can cause major problems if it fails. Bad PCV = crank case overpressure can't be relieved = excessive pressure inside the crankcase --> seals can start leaking.

Here are two different videos about the what/why/how of PCV valves in general. Both narrators explain it clearly and in-depth. Video #1. Video #2.

Is yours the V6 or the 4-banger?
